Wow are they expensive! I've got a couple good recipes that call for them and love them on salads, but man are they expensive! Our little local grocery had a 2 oz pack for just under five bucks. Anyone know of any sources? How much have you paid?

They are pretty much expensive. I go to the bulk bins at my health food store and scoop out as little as I need.

They are expensive because they are pretty much harvested *by hand*. It's a very labor intensive process.

They're also expensive because of the increased demand due to food TV and other cooking shows using them often (and therefore making their viewers want to purchase pine nuts).

Costco has a big bag for a decent price. Also, my MIL uses them a lot and tells me that you can freeze the whole bag and they keep forever. I have a bag frozen right now.

The cheapest I've found were at Costco, but in the past year or so, they've more than doubled in price.

I get mine at Trader Joe's, too. Bigger bag for less money... they are so delicious, I ration them!! Now I want some. :)

I used to use these and they are expensive. Then I read about someone that lost their sense of taste from eating them?? Was it on these boards?

I gave in and purchased some over Easter. I bought them in an Italian market and I paid $20/lb. They had them in one pound containers only so I spent $10. I used them in my beef braciole.

Thanks everyone! I'm not a Cosco member, but I will try Trader Joes. I'm also going to check out the sense of taste thing??

Yep! I can't believe the price of pinenuts. I bought a good sized container for $7.99 and then the store only carried the organic for $3.00 more. Online there is a place called milfordspicecompany.com. I used a Groupon there and am pretty happy with their spices. They did have pinenuts at one point. Check there.

problem is they think China is mixing in smaller inedible pinenuts with the regular one.... leading to "PINE MOUTH"... can not tell u how horrible it can be...
