Tell me about pin trading please and how old your kids were when they started!

My kids will be 7 and 5 when we go in August next year and I'm thinking of doing it with them. Or something else that would be fun to do with a 7 and 5 year old while we are at the parks! They love looking for hidden mickey's (thanks to my husband) but wanted to give them something else to do.

My kids were about that age when they started. They love it! Each of them collects a different , specific character, so it makes it like a treasure hunt looking for pins that they don't already have :)

Mine were about the same as well. And then my man child - he started around 30 years old lmao.

Be careful! It's addicting!

Our youngest might have been a year or so younger but his Sis would go with him.

I would recommend each child wear their pins they want to trade and if there is a pin they do not want to trade then either leave in room or you hold till back at room.

Also, when kids walk up to Castmembers: will usually trade with the kids, each trader gets to choose which pin(Kids chooses from Castmember then Castmember chooses from Kid), on a rare occasion Castmember will say no, if Castmember is busy wait.

Have fun with it.

Trading with Castmembers is fun and easy; the child picks a pin to trade from their own stash and picks which pin they want from the Castmember's stash and they trade. Your kids are about the right age, IMO. I've not ever seen a Castmember refuse to trade with a child for a particular pin unless the child offers a non-disney pin. Now, regular traders (non-castmembers) are free to refuse to trade. As a previous poster mentioned make sure that if there is a pin you don't want your child to trade or one they esp. love, make sure to stash it somewhere where your child won't accidentally trade it off, or forget for a moment how much they like it.

If you are doing EPCOT, the Kidcot stations were always a hit with my nieces and nephew.

My kids loved the Perry the Platypus game in EPCOT, the Kidcot Fun Stops and the passports.

Pin trading is awesome! I bought a few pins on eBay (not the knock offs) to get them started. They also saved money and bought special pins to keep not trade. You can buy better pin backings for the keepers at any of the pin stores. Have fun!
