Pin Trading?

Hi all! This may not be the correct place to post this Q..so if not feel free to move (whoever does that). I am fairly new, and not too familiar with Pin Trading. I read about it on here and throughout books and websites. Is this something that a 5 year old girl may enjoy?? I was thinking about trying this on our trip this year in September. Does anyone know where I can get pins that are not expensive and "real" ?

Your daughter might be too young to enjoy it all on her own, but with your guidance she should have a lot of fun with it. Ebay is a great place to buy pins. I would buy pins sold as a "lot" from one of the "top sellers". Check out the reviews on each seller. Most of the sellers on ebay are reputable. I've only run into a few that were not. Don't forget you'll also want a lanyard and you can get these on ebay as well under Ddisney lanyards".

One thing to keep in mind. The lanyards can become heavy with a lot of pins on them. I would put a few on her lanyard and the rest in your pocket, backpack or something like that.

I did PIN trading with DS when he was 6. Age 5 would have been fine, I think. DS had fun trading pins with cast members and other children. With other children, it was more fun to have some decent pins -- that were of interest to people... not just symbols. This trading was JUST for fun. I traded some pins too... just for fun. It was an opportunity for DS to strike up conversation with people while waiting in lines and to ask cast members questions about Disney World. I offered to give some pins away to kids to share some magic. For example, we were on the bus and some kids were staring at my pin lanyard. I let them each pick one for free.

I also collected pins by buying them. These are the nicer, heavier, quality pins sold in the gift shops and also can be bought on ebay. These pins represent the resorts we stayed at, our favorite rides and attractions, and special events (halloween party). I also have some nice pins I got from trading with cast members. These "keepers" I'm displaying at my home on extra lanyards and framed boxes that hang on the wall.

I was concerned about fake pins... I bought most of my trading pins on ebay but I did not buy any of the "lots".... although I'm sure that is much of what is traded. I avoided buyers who were selling random mixes of pins. Instead, I bought pins that were sold in sets, preferably in original packaging. These are sometimes called starter sets. Buying from the same seller helped too by combining shipping costs. It took some time and watching but I ended up paying about an average of $1 per pin.

I've seen people who have a bag of pins to trade and a lanyard or separate bag of pins that they actually want. It seems much more efficient for pin trading

Pin trading is one of those things that adds to the WDW experience, as does autograph collecting.

It makes it less of a ride, wait on line , ride, wait on line kinda day.

My 4 and 7 YOD loved it.

Get some PINS from EBAY NOW, and a lanyard too. PINs are VERY expensive in WDW. Not to mention you want to buy PINs to give away, not ones you like to start.

Make sure the EBAYer you by from states the PINS have the official WDW logo AND rubber backings.

WE LOVE doing it, I collect villians, daughter collects Princess, wifey B&B, my son...whatever he thinks is cool at that moment.

Plus is a great way for the kids to get a new present every day, with out spending a fortune...
