basically you buy the pins in the disney shops and u trade with literally anyone you meet. normally the workers around the place have pins so you can trade with them.

Here is the official pin trading site: http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/page?id=getStarted

In the parks, I think the most popular way of trading pins is that the park visitor (you) will trade pins with a Disney CM (cast member) who is wearing a pin lanyard.

Disney Pin Trading is as easy as 1-2-3.
  • 1. Meet a Disney Cast Member wearing a pin trading lanyard.
    2. Find a Disney pin with your favorite Disney character, attraction, movie or design.
    3. Trade your Disney Pin with the Cast Member.
You can only trade with them official Disney pins (so no most likely Wal-mart will not have cheap Disney pins) - many people start their trading collection from e-bay. DD used some of the pins we had gotten when she was younger that she was no "into" any longer that were not "special event" or "limited edition" type pins that I want to keep. I think there are some pins in the parks that start aroun $6.95, and they have some starter sets with the lanyard and several pins for around $40-50 (I'm going by memory here...)

If you are in a store at a ride, or see a CM walking by that you want to trade with, you simply let them know you would like to trade. They have 12 pins I believe on their lanyard, and you can choose up to two from each CM, and I turn you will give them the pin(s) (official with the Disney mark stamped on the back) you wish to trade. They do ask that you not give them a pin they already have on their lanyard.

I think if you read through the info in the link, it will make things much clearer. That is where I got my info....DD trades just for fun - it's cool to come home with something different each time, and it didn't cost anything!

There are also pin trading events for those who are seriously into pin trading. I have no experience with these.

The CMs with the yellow lanyards trade with anyone, the green lanyards anoly trade with children, I think ages 3-9. It is lots of fun, my dd5 loved in on our last trip. You can buy pins virtually anywhere ont he property, not sure about outside the property. We spent alot on pins while in Disney and dd was very pleased! Make sure to buy pins you are willing to part with. Also, make sure to look as closely as possible (by asking) at the pins on the CMs lanyards, my dd has two CM pins that can't be purchased in store (but probably eBay). You can tell those pins because they have a little silver Mickey head somewhere on the pin. DD is very proud of her Jasmine and Pirate sof the Carribean with the little Mickey head and she knows not to trade those! Have a great trip!

Pin collecting and trading is lots of fun. :goodvibes I was skeptical of the whole pin thing at first, but now I'm hooked. We started our collection with a free lanyard and pin that came with our MYW package.

It's an inexpensive souvenir (if you don't go overboard and buy 10 of them, like I always do ;) ), and trying to collect a specific kind or theme of pin is also fun. For instance, I always look for Disney Princesses, but they have to be dressed down. Like I have Cinderella & Snow White in their "peasanty" outfits.

Now, I'm just trying to figure out a way to display them at home!

I am sure there are "fancier" and more crafty ways to display them, buy my simple way is to just take the back off and stick them in a cork board. It is inexpensive, and quick (I sometimes have good ideas for things - but have trouble getting them executed - so something instant is good!)

We usually collect the special event pins and AP pins, and I try and arrange them in some way that makes sense, but DD likes to look at them and re-arranges them her way!

How fun for your DD to be able to look at the pins and remember her time at Disney - I would have loved that as a kid! Heck, I love it now!

Oh and thanks for the idea. I'll have to try corkboard out. I bet attaching a piece of cloth (velvet maybe?) to the board would make it look really nice too.

Pin trading is so fun. My DS really like it and normally he wont ask a stranger for anything but the pin trading was different for him. He has even had a few CM's just give him the pin he wanted to trade for and didn't take one in return.

Anyone comment on the pin trading area in DTD? I was really put off by the types of people I saw there... Hardcore adult traders who looked squirrelly to me.

Those traders are much different than trading with the CMs in the parks. There are pin trading events at the resorts in the evenings, which I have never been to - but I would imagine these folks are looking for specific and hard to find types of pins.

DD does it for the fun - we do have one pin that was from DL Paris, which we did not realize, and the CM she was going to trade it to suggested that she might want to keep it - as it was not something commonly seen.

This is our bulletin board I mentioned below. We do not have a vast collection -mostly holiday, AP pins, special occasions or events. She also has about 12-15 on her lanyard.

Visiting the parks on a weekly basis it is so easy to get caught up in collecting this and collecting that (we have a vast collection of antennea toppers, a collection of those small figures that came three in a package, a small collection of Disney trading cards, not to mention stuffed animals, and coffee mugs!.. I had to put a limit to things! I've found not that I am obsessive about photographing EVERYTHING, I am much less tempted to buy too many things!

One way we get pins is to buy them in lots on Ebay. Or I just called some of the Disney Outlet sotres. I found some pins on sale ofr 2.99 and just said mail me 20. It was 10 for shipping but that was still a good deal.

My five and seven year old kids had a blast trading.
