Pin trading, where are they?

I noticed there weren't many people pin trading this past trip like on prevoius trips. Is this a fade fading? I hope not cause the kids enjoy it. Seems the CMS were manily the only ones we could and would trade with (The kids are young.), but almost every CM had the same selection of pins to trade with. It was bizzare! LOL
Just curiuos if others might have noticed this fade fading away, too...

We saw a couple of people trading while we were there May 4-12. DR and I got pins from BCV and he decided to trade his one and without buying any additionals he just kept trading his one pin - it was pretty funny. One CM felt bad for him or something and gave him a second pin. It wasn't that we couldn't afford the pins by any means just that he was having fun with the idea of trading just the one pin - now he has the two pins and I'm hoping it doesn't turn into a habit!

It isn't the feeding frenzy it used to be! LE pins that used to be gone in a day to a week now hang on the racks for longer periods and some go to the Beltz outlet at discounted prices. You have to be at the right spot at the right time. Thursday nights at All Sports restaurant, Friday nights at the Contemporary Hotel concourse, DTD Pin Trading shop every night, EPCOT has the biggest activity on Sundays at Pin Central. Other than that, it's hit-or-miss.

Nah. I'm just going to keep trading my one pin. I'll save the other one in case I ever run into a cm wearing a Humphrey pin, then I'll save that one for keeps. But beyond that I'm going to just keep trading my one pin.

That was really nice of that lady to give me one, though. Another piece of pixie dust from a wonderful cm.

This pin trading is an addiction. It starts off slow and then you're hooked for life. Every week I have to sell plasma inorder to raise enough cash to buy the latest pin. Last week my house caught on fire. First, I grabbed my pins and ran out of the house to put them far away from the burning house. Then I ran back in to save my wife and kids. My wife says my priorities are all mixed up. ;)

I love those pins!

King Triton ....
LMAO I was wondering who that mad man was on channel 5 news ! Running away from a burning house with a pin trading back back , book and 4 lanyards around his neck :D

I insured mine. That way I don't have to scurry around the house. I would need the time to load them into my Santa Fe! :jester: ;)
Traders are still around. Certain nights at ASSp, Cont, etc.
I'm out of the exact details since we just had the one trip this year.
I prefer CM trading or on-line Pinpics trading.

The best place to pin trade in my opinion (the best pins in the pin books and on vests and lanyards) is at Island Mercantile in the Animal Kingdom. They always have great pins there!

I agree, anim8or98. I've traded for several great pins there.
The aspect of trading that I really enjoy is talking to CM's. You can strike up some great conversations when you walk up and stare at someone's chest.

You can always go see Scoop Sanderson at the MK town Hall. He is great and you can learn all about pins and what pin trading Karma is.:smooth:

I think a big part of the problem with the pins is all the folks that bought pins at the Disney store cheap. Then they went to WDW and traded for pins that they didn't have. I know we went in Jan. and Feb. and most of the CM's lanyards had the Dis store pins on them.

If you read the boards most people were saying how they were going to make out by trading their cheap pins for the CM's.

We were just there and it does seem a little better but most still have the Disney store pins on their lanyards.

JMO / Pin trading has gone the way of bean bags etc. It has peaked and is now almost back to a normal state again for the new and serious collectors. The crazyness is gone and the collectible secondary market on most pins has crashed. Disney milked it for as long as they could like any other collectible and it was just a matter of time till it cooled off.
I'm sure new collectors will enjoy the hobby but not at the frantic pace it was a year or so ago!
I have bought three pins since last Aug. and will be returning in July without my traders. It is easier just to buy at the parks or ebay anything I might like. Had way too many extra pins which tied up a lot of money. Most of my traders people just didn't want. I fell into the trap of buying extra pins, to TRADE?
I still have a large collection of pins and will go back to my old ways of only buying the pins I like.
Happy Collecting!

It is sad how Disney marketing mishandled the Month of Magic DS pins.
Years of Dream series came first and they were under manufacured and poorly distributed.
So in the Disney tradition they over compensated on the following series MoM. (And it followed to soon after the near fiasco of the YoD series. They burned out too many people since everyone had to stand SEVERAL hours in a line at the mall to MAYBE be able to buy the pins they wanted.)
The MoM pins aren't that bad. They just way over produced them, and in some cases not enough thought behind it.
Then they really devalued them by selling them for next to nothing later.
They aren't bad pins. They were just mismarketed.
Most traders and collectors were not going to feel bad if pins cooled a little. If that is the case, that I have not seen yet, the true lovers and not those just out to try to make a quick buck are more involved.
Just like with any hobby -- there are great people, and those you only deal with once and that's plenty. ;)
