My dd's are 9 & 7 and are not really into the princess thing like they were in past trips. ( last 2 years) They don't want to dress up for any meals this year just MNSSHP.

They do love the autograph books still. Do you think they are at an age for pin trading? Are they too young.. too old???? Also I don't know a thing about trading pins. Could somebody point me in the right direction and explain how this works?? Thanks so much

I LOVE pin trading (I just started last year at the age of 19). So definatly not too old. Also I've seen plenty of kids ages 4 and up trading pins so they are not too young. I'm bringing a 7 year old boy with me this time and have already bought him 5 traders so that he can get started.

My son started last year right when he turned 5. I encouraged it because he tends to be hesitant about approaching adults for questions/help, etc (like asking for something in a store or ordering his own food, etc.). I kind of looked it as a social development opportunity. :thumbsup2

This is the exact reason I am having my children try pin trading.

and my kids really enjoyed it.

I would pick up about 12 pins each from ebay before you go. You can get them for $2 each or so when they are $7+ at the parks. You can also pick up a lanyard, or wait to get one in the parks.

My son is very shy, but will walk up and as a CM to see their pins with no problem. They are very proud of their collections.

My children were 9, 8 and 8 on our last trip. It was our first time to try pin trading and the LOVED it!!! They have all their pins on a canvas hanging in their rooms. I would encourage you to try it. We bought a lot of 75 pins from ebay and divided them among the children. They would put six or so on their lanyard each day. We only traded with Cast Members. I think the ones with blue lanyards will only trade with children. The ones with green lanyards will trade with children or adults. I hope your children enjoy pin trading!!

We loved pin trading last year, dd was 4, we liked looking for the princess with the hidden mickeys. Then we tried to complete the sets, we have one complete set of princess with the hidden mickeys. We had alot of fun, and we are taking our 2 lanyards full back with us this time too! I am sure dds will love it, the cast members have to trade you no matter what you offer, except if they already have the same pin, they won't. That is how it was explained and worked out for us last year.

My dd was 3 when we started her with pin trading, she liked it that year but for the past 2 years (age 4 and then 5) she LOVES it!!
Now my son is 4 and doesn't care about it at all..

Pin trading is GREAT!! My girls love it, we've been doing it for almost 3 years. I wanted my youngest to start because she was shy and it really helped bring her out of her shell. We do buy pins on eBay but I'm very careful because there are so many scrappers out there (basically overruns or pins that do not pass Disney's QC and were supposed to be thrown out) and I don't want to be trading fake pins. :) If you visit the Collectors Board there is a thread there with a list of "good" sellers that some of us have dealt with. Or I like to buy from mousepinsonline.com, they will give you a good mix of good traders and they also have lanyards for sale if you don't want to wait to get to the parks. Have a good time pin trading!!

my daughter has been pin trading since she was 3... LOVES IT! She is now 7 and has tons and tons of pins.. we buy them on ebay and then she trades them there... we are going to the pin event in June and can't wait!

I read your post and I really think that my children of 4 or 6 will have a gift when we will be in WDW ... the starting kit of Pin trading... Can you told me what is the best to buy first?!??!

I mean... is it better to buy a kit of 4 or 5 pin with a rope... or to buy them alone (are the better if they are sold one by one?!?!?)

My kids started trading when they were 9 & 12, now they are 15 & 12 and still love it.:cheer2:

my kids are 3,4,5 & 11 and have been pin trading for a couple years. The youngest was completely into it this past week. He'd call out to every cast member. LOL So yours are definitely not too young! The cast members are so nice about showing their pins and the kids can pick whatever they like from the lanyards. The CM's with the the green ones only trade with children and the black with everyone and the resort main stores have pin boards as well as one store in each park where the kids can just look at what they have and trade out pins.

buy them in bulk off Ebay. Makes them a couple dollars per pin instead of $5+ each.

And the pins are as valuable as your child holds them to be. While some may be collector's items, the pin trading is more of a reflection of what one child at one moment in time finds to be the 'perfect' pin.

I took my niece for her first trip last fall when she was 4. Pin trading was one of the highlights of her trip!

My Son had just turned 3 the day b4 we got to disney in Feb and he loved the disney pin trading. He has his own lanyard. We went pin trading crazy in feb though w/ 3 total lanyards.

Well said!
