Pin Trading - Too Young?

My DS will be 3 mos. shy of 5 years old when we sail. Would he be too young? He is not the most outgoing child in the world, but he would enjoy doing it with me and DH by his side, I think. Would just like your thoughts on how this would be received by other pintraders. Not knowing the etiquette, want to make sure before I invest in starter pins for him.

You do realize, this is merely my "cover" for pin trading myself!

My DD started when she was 5. She also was not very outgoing. I had her trade with CM's only. I used this to help her talk to other people more. I had her ask if she could see their pins. I had to help on the first couple, but then she was on the go! At 8 she now does all the trading herself and loves it!

My dd is 4 and loves to pin trade. She only trades with CMs, though, after a not-so-nice episode on the Magic with a non-CM pin wearer.

I think it's the perfect age for trading with CMs; they are all very friendly and patient with the kid traders, and they LOVE how excited they get. The CMs know that the kids aren't looking for expensive or rare pins -- they're just picking the characters they love. My dd traded for a Snow White and Princ pin, and she was so excited that she was jumping up and down and screaming for joy at the CM's lanyard. That kind of excitement is what pin trading should eb all about.

Marcy--

I agree wholeheartedly. One of the things I'm looking forward to much is seeing the gleam in by childrens' eye when they see the boat--- and Mickey-- for the first time. That will be the highlight of my trip-- experiencing everything through their eyes.

Just prepare better than I did.

Not on the ship - but at one of the parks...
I'll never forget the time my 5 yr. old DD traded away her limited edition (read: overpriced) Mickey pin for some tiny little napkin looking thing that was on every single CM lanyard we saw that day. (probably a give-away of some kind)

Had to keep repeating to myself... "it's her pin, she can trade if she wants... it's her pin....."
I'm glad I let her though. She still has that silly napkin and loves it!

The secret with her is to always keep a few Winnie the Pooh characters on her lanyard. She has just never really cared much for poor Pooh bear and will always trade those away first.
;)

We have always just traded with CM's too. It's a lot of fun. I bet your DS will really enjoy it!

I am new to this pin trading thing but am interested in getting my kids (DD5 & DS10) involved in it. What are the rules and how do you get started?
