Well, Linda got the word today that they would begin trading pins at her Disney Store beginning Tuesday, Oct. 23. She and another Cast Member will be available to trade pins with guests every Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. There are strict (and confusing!) rules for what's tradable. This is what appears on the guest pamphlet:

TRADABLE PINS
Cloisonne, Semi-Cloisonne or Hard-Enamel metal pins purchased at a Disney Store location, that represent a Disney event, Disney theme park location or attraction, Disney character or icon or Disney film title can be traded.
Theme park operating participant or Corporate promotional partner pins (i.e. Coca-Cola, McDonalds) may be traded in they show a Disney affiliation.
The following pins cannot be traded:
  • Disney service award pins
  • Disney Store Spirit Award pins
  • Disney Store language pins
  • Disney Store Guest Shop pins ("Puppy Pins")
  • Disney Store sales pins (i.e. Sales Quest)
  • "Personalized" name pins
  • Rubber or PVC (plastic) pins
  • Non-Cloisonne or Non-Hard-Enamel pins
  • Epoxy-coated pins
  • Buttons
  • Any theme park operating participant or Corporate promotional partner pins not showing a Disney affiliation
I think there will be the potential for a lot of disagreements on what is tradable! There is a pin trading etiquette guide on the opposite side of the pamphlet. Each Cast Member will start out and keep only eight pins on their lanyards and may not accept duplicate pins. The Cast Member shall make the final determination on what pin is tradable. The Disney Store pin trading will continue past the first of the year, according to the DS.
Let the fun begin!!

Are they still doing it at "Certain Stores" only.
No use getting all those traders salivating... if it's not so
at their local store!

Thanks for info!

Kathy

I verified that it would happen here in Syracuse. And, we were definately not in the first ten!

I asked today and was told they are starting here on Tuesday also. But they were not telling anyone that. So I figure I will be "it" come Tuesday.

Luv2Roam, if I didn't know better, I would think we were at the same TDS. We asked about pin trading this morning & no one knew what I was talking about :(. I thought this would be a perfect time to "promote" it. I heard some of the store management CMs do not like the stores selling pins & are not happy to have anything to do with pins.

You would think that with retail sales on the skids, the Disney Stores would be thrilled to have a product that brings customer in to the store, sells out every week, and draws interest from passers-by.

I have noticed two different CM crews at my local store -- apparently alternating Saturday mornings. The team from last week was much more outgoing, friendly, generous with information. This week's team is preoccupied, difficult to engage in conversation, and ambivalent about the pins in general. The CM manager today had not told any of her team about pintrading at the store, and only admitted to it, reluctantly, when I and another DIS member insisted it was chain-wide.

Here's my vote for last week's team! :D

The stores should know about it. At my store they even had a flyer advertising it with the pin trading guidelines and they were putting them in the bags to take home with your purchases.

When I purchased my pins this morning, they were putting flyers in every bag about pin trading on Tuesday. The flyer says "Pin Trading Disney Store." The front lists tradable pins and the back lists Pin Trading Etiquette. I thought this was a pretty good idea and would clear up confusion that people might have. Kind of surprised to hear that they didn't have much at other stores (especially because my store is not a very large or busy store, but they were still handing these out).

Hopemax, they were doing the same thing at my store. So I'll be checking pintrading out this Tues, from 7pm to 9pm (I think)...hmm. Better go check my little flyer again. I hope pintrading works out nicely as I can't get to FL very often to trade. :(

Our DS had the flyers on the rack with the pin books and pin bags when I was there yesterday. So I am assuming that they are pin trading this Tues. The CMs at our store are wonderful and are very excited and upbeat every Sat when the new pins are for sale, even though it makes a lot of extra work for them, they never fail to be happy, upbeat and helpful, especially the store manager, he is a gem! They are truely Disney CMs at their finest!
