During our last two trips, DH & kids have become addicted to pin trading. We've found it to be very fun and entertaining.

Here's the problem. Both kids have filled their lanyards and are now at the point where they have traded and traded and traded and now want to keep the pins they have acquired. Of course, they still want to trade, because it's fun but they require me to buy more pins so they don't have to trade away the ones they have grown attached to. I guess this entails getting new lanyards too since theirs are full.

How do you guys handle this?

Is there anywhere that you can get really, really cheap disney tradeable pins...you know, like a set of 10 pins for $30 or something like that?

Do your kids have more than one lanyard? We don't want to buy the "books", etc because that would mean lots of blank pages they would "have to" fill up.

So, hit me with your best advice!

I just bought 13 pins in a "starter kit" (no guarantee on which ones) for $22 at cheappins.com. I paid with PayPal (Visa, MC, etc. also available) and they wrote right back the next day to say they were on the way.

We're taking our first trip to WDW May 31- June 8 and my DDs (5 & 9) are excited about pin trading. I have lanyards for each and plan to fill them with these starter pins so that they can trade (or not) as they like when we're there. This will be one of the surprises for either on the plane or when we arrive.

I'm with you, though, this could get to be a very expensive hobby at $6.50 each retail!

What I like to do is fun AND easy... I'll trade for the ones I want (or buy the ones I want) and save them... then I'll buy cheaper pins to trade around at wdw. Another thing you could do, get a piece of square foam (about 12" by 12") and some material, like suede or velvet... wrap the foam in the material and hot glue it to place... then you can put the pins on the foam as a display device.

I also keep a few "high-end" (I.E. passholder only or LE) pins on my lanyard for people that want to trade so I can get a good trade.

I bought my DD(8) a vest for our next trip. The landyard really hurt her neck and as you said didn't hold as many as she wanted. The front to panels of the vest are solid and the back is a disney print. I bought it from a crafter at a flea market. If you want her e-mail let me know.

As for the pins, I keep checking at the Disney store (last Jan. I bought a bunch for $.75 each before our trip). Some one else once told me to try the Belz outlet once in Florida.

Good Luck,
Sandy

Also watch on ebay. I had found someone selling an allotment of 50 pins, I ended paying less than $1.00 a piece for them. There wasn't anything fantastic in there but everything is tradeable. Just make sure they state that their pins have disney's copyright.

I'm going to move this to our collector's board for you.

What I have done is purchased a cork board for each of the kids and they put their pins that they want to keep on it. They now have room for more pins (which of course is more money!) on the lanyard.

My son did not wear the lanyard at the parks. I was too afraid of pins falling off. I kept the pins he wanted to trade in my fanny pack and when he saw one he wanted to trade I pulled a pin out. Worked fine for us. We also get our pins at cheappins.com or at the Disney store when they are on sale. As of now they don't have any. I have also been told you can find cheap pins at the disney outlet stores in the orlando area but have never actually gone there. they have also posted that now there will be two different color lanyards. One for the kids and one for the adults to trade w/ the cm's.
