Pin Trading still popular?

We are at WDW now and the quality of pins on the pin boards is up dramatically from our trading in March of this year. We are pleasantly surprised at the number of decent pins we can find to trade on most of the pin trading boards at the different locations. Just looking forward to having CM lanyards back at some point.

This is promising news!

We loved pin trading back in the day. Seems like with Magic Bands, do people not wear pin lanyards anymore. We were thinking about trading again this coming trip. Will we be in the minority? Are pin boards still plentiful around the parks and can you still trade with any CM you see?
Oh you’ll be in the minority alright. But I’m afraid my friend you always were. 😂 Jk We’ve found it slow a little over the last few years but not enough to say don’t bother. It’s still worth doing.

This was last year but there was a pin trading area in AK manned by a cast member. It has an outpost look. It’s next to the shop in the carnival/dino section. It had a healthy amount of people there and the pin boards that the CMs had were big.

We solved all our "value" issues by each kid having a lanyard for the park and a special pin board at home. Got tired of worrying if they were getting a scrapper and established a lanyard with 6 pins bought from sales or leftovers from year dated 6 packs. Their lanyard can never have more than six pins on it, they can trade as much or as little as they want from the lanyard. If they buy a pin it goes on the pin board or trade for something special they can add it to the pin board. Once a pin is on the pin board it can not come off.

Just wanted to quickly bump this thread to let people who might be at WDW during that time know that I saw today that Disney are hosting a special pin trading event that you’ll need to buy a package to attend at Coronado Springs Resort on August 25th & 26th called Magic HAP-Pins.

Reporting in from our trip last week - I noticed a lot more pin boards than last time I was there. At Saratoga Springs Resort they had a board in the lobby with a lot of hidden mickey pins. Not sure if they were real or fake or harder to find because I didn't trade - I just noticed a lot of them had a hidden mickey.

Tickets are already sold out and RSP results came out last week (were due 2 weeks prior).

Do you have to get a paper map to see where the pin trading boards are? I can't see an option on the map?

Are the locations of the pin boards noted on the maps? The last several times, I've just asked whenever I saw a pin board "Do you know where any other pin boards are?" I often go solo, and going around pin trading is a hobby of mine. I just trade for the fun of it, and I trade for any pin that looks like it belongs in the NEXT park I'm going to (such as Figment pins if I'm going to Epcot next, Princesses if I'm going to MK next-unless they're a Princess specific to another park, etc.) It'll be easier if the pin trading locations are marked on maps.

My 7 year old loves pin trading. We started her on it her first trip when she was 3!
Last trip (November) she was disappointed in the pin boards, as most didn't have any actual character pins. But I'm excited hearing that things might be shifting back to better trading!

She only trades with cast members since we aren't "serious" about it 😜
But we do only buy pins in the parks or from shopdisney.
I did get her a few cheap ones from TEMU but told her she isn't allowed to trade them & she understood! They were cute ones of favorite characters that she wouldn't want to trade away anyways (like Zero! 😍😍😍)

In November she used a pin book, but she said this upcoming trip (September) she wants to wear a lanyard again.

Pin trading locations are on the paper maps. I don't think they are on the app but I could be wrong.

It's so hit or miss. I live in the area and go to the parks a lot. There is a lot of junk on the boards. Non-Disney pins, fakes, the same ugly pins that no one wants. It's great that you're not trying to trade pins from Temu or ebay, but not everyone has that same courtesy.
