I was interested in some pin-trading beginner pointers. We are bringing my 3 boys 12,10,8 to WDW in March. This seems like a cool activity for the boys.

What is the best way to "see" if they are interested in this?

Should I just buy lanyards and and a few pins before we go?

Do you trade "any" pins...or just Disney? They are youth hockey players and there seems to be an "exchange" of team pins at the tournaments. (the team managers usually handle this....we just get a handful after the tourney)

Are there many designated areas to do this or is it a "see a lanyard, make a trade" kinda thing?

Sorry bout the newbie questions, and for all I know they might think it's "dumb" and blow me off!

You DS's may want to buy a lanyard and have a few, inexpensive pins. The best bet for beginners (I do this) is to only trade with CMs. They HAVE to accept any trade offer, if they don't have the pin on their lanyard, but yes, it does have to be a Disney pin. I've found that often regular people wearing lanyards don't trade unless they want what you have. It's more fun to trade with a CM (sometimes I trade with a CM just for the interaction-they're usually very nice). If the CM has a green lanyard on, they are only allowed to trade with children from the green lanyard (often CMs wear 2 lanyards, the pins on the other lanyard their wearing they trade with anyone). If there's a particular character, theme, movie, etc. the boys like, they might want to search for CMs wearing any pins with that theme to trade. One evening I did that-I went from CM to CM in the MK, looking for Figment pins. Had a lot of fun and some nice conversations.

Thanks for the info.

Now that this thread was moved I will be spending twice the time on DIS!!!

I never really strayed from lurking the resorts and trip planning boards!

I will be searching for some more ideas and will post back the reactions of my boys to the "pin trading thing".

I hope they will enjoy it, if not, I certainly will!
