I know nothing about pin trading. My idea was to try and buy some on e-bay for my 3 kids and let them "trade" with CM's for something they like?

Any drawbacks? Are there "official" Disney Pins and/or Pins I should not buy to be traded..Sorry for the ignorance..any help would be appreciated/

Yeap, that's a good idea. Official Disney pins are certainly the way to go... while you can usually trade Sedesma and Propins, they aren't very well liked. Much more fun to trade with CMs when they like the pins you are trading to them!

Be sure to check out the Collector's forum here at Disboards, and check out dizpins.com for lots more information.

I know that DL(I'm assuming WDW as well) has pin trading starter kits with lanyards and duplicate pins so kids can go to the CMs and trade with them. Mickey & Friends, Princesses, and Tink are the ones I've seen.

Yes, E-Bay is the way to go. Look for a large lot to buy. I have been getting pins for about $2 each on E-Bay. Make sure the description says that they have the Disney copyright symbol of the backs of the pins. If they do, then they are tradeable at WDW.

I agree with Fig about the ProPins and Sedesma pins, but many people will tell you it doesn't matter. The cast members still have to take them, even though they don't like them. Those pins, I have been told, just get thrown out by the CMs. It's much more fun if you're trading something someone else might actually want.

Watch out for blocked pins-pins that Cast Members have on at all times, to prevent more from coming into the park (since you can't trade a pin if he/she already has it on their lanyard) Some are the Kodak 2000 Ribon Dancer and another Kodak 2000 pin. They're perfectly good pins, just if you trade for one-it'll be hard to get rid of it

As everyone else has said-E-bay is the way to go! :)
