How do you recommend traveling with your pin lanyard?

With the concerns of safety in airplanes, do you recommend putting them in your checked luggage, or can you put them in your carry on?
Is there any big hassles by putting them in your carry on?
Or do I have to put them in my checked baggage?

We always carry in carry-on with no problem ( way to valueable for checked)
This would be a good idea to ask airlines though .They made DW dump all but a couple of toothpicks she use to carry for DD shortly after 9-11.

We put them in big, zip lock bags (inside their own carry case); which is inside a larger carry-on. The mouse ears have a tendency to bounce off at the most inconvenients times. Of course I put underwear & socks in the zip bags too (hate the thought of anyone pawing them during an inspection).

We put ours in the checked luggage in a ziploc. No hassle; no problems. :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl: They are a heavy beast to wear around the parks....when DS and DD were "into" collecting a few trips ago, we found that the backs started to seperate really easy and since we're a very active family, it just wasn't practical to wear them on the rides and/or walking through the parks. I had each in my fanny pack within a couple hours. Still collect, just don't wear them. :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

We always carry them on. At MCO they are used to travelers with pins. At other airports they may hand check the carry on luggage. No way do I put pins in my checked luggage.

Just thought about this...

Last Feb. Air Tran lost a piece of our luggage...of course, the one time I packed the pins in a checked bag & it was the one to go missing....you should have seen the look on my DS's face.

There is a very specific formula as to what your particular airline will accept responsibility for in these cases (can be found on their web-site). Additionally, your home owner's policy is also quite specific as to what they will pay out on...in our case, collectable items (pins) were excluded.

I started to painfully replace them via eBay in the month after we returned home. Luckily our bag was finallly found by a customer in Michigan, who tracked me down. We now have a bonanza for pin-trading though.:cool1:

Don't put anything in your luggage you can't afford to lose. Carry the pins on the airplane. No problems going through security.

DD carries hers on in her backpack. We just returned from DL without any problems at the airport.

I always carry mine in my back pack onto the plane- never had a problem.

I was flying from Ireland to the US and had a pin in my bag and they made me toss it.

Thanks for the tips!

I think we will put them in a large ziploc bags then pack them in my carry-on.

WE normally carry them in ziploc bags also. But, this last trip, I had cleaned out some closets and had a surplus of small plastic school boxes...we put the pins in there...kept them in better condition. (My DS generally SHOVES his backpack under the seat and promptly SHOVES his feet on top of it...and we have ocassionally had backs broken off from this)
