PIN code trick?

We are staying 10/31-11/4. We were going to split stay between GCH (Wed & Thurs) and DLH (weekend nites)to save costs but if its priced right we could stay at GCH the entire time. I know no one knows for sure but since we are arriving on Halloween night--are the chances for a PIN slim? Should I save me dates for just the weekend nights? I know there are no guarantees but any advice would help. TIA

I can only speak from my experience, but it seems like PINs for DLR have been pretty scarce these days. There are just so many people coming that they don't need to offer an extra incentive to book. I tried to book on-property for an upcoming trip a few days ago, and all the standard rooms were taken for my dates. So it sounds like the rooms are filling without offering any special deals, which makes me think PIN offers are probably pretty rare.

I have received several PINs from WDW over the last few months though, so I guess they are trying to draw people to the other coast! I think a lot of folks are holding off on visits there until the new Fantasyland is completed, so this fall is pretty open.

I hope you do get a PIN, that would be awesome! But for now I'd suggest keeping your other reservation, just to be safe.

It does not appear that saved dates have anything to do with Pin codes. I have Oct dates saved and I recently got a Pin for up to 09/29/12.

They could very well work, just not for your dates. I have gotten a few pins and do not have a clue how I got them and neverfor my summer dates.

I recently got a pin code -- it was for the actual dates I already have booked, I think it was good for late August and September. I was very excited as it was a 20% discount ... unfortunately I couldn't use it because I would have had to rebook and would have lost my 6-day hoppers, not risking it given what I've read about the difficulty of adding days.

It said "for our best customers" or something to that extent (I've actually only been twice to DL and once to DW), but I did request a DVD planning video a couple of weeks before receiving it. You might try that.

I've tried every suggestion on these boards and never received a pin code. Ever.

I've received PIN codes 3 times - always in June for some reason. They are generally good through the Fall. Since we're going in December this year, it didn't help me. I'm not sure what I'm doing to get these codes, but hope I get one next year! We're hoping to go in October 2013!

Thank you everyone! I gave it try to save the offer for my entire trip. I will let you know if I get something. Hoping for some pixie dust but also not expecting it! Thanks again :)

Saving the offers used to work in triggering a PIN code for some people (I was the one who first announced it on the DIS when I saw that it worked 2 times in a row for me, and then many, many people tried to get PIN codes after that - but some of them were not following my exact instructions!;)), but I think the PIN codes have been more scarce lately. Or if they are being sent out at all, the discounts are lower and the room rates are higher than with previous PIN codes.

I just got an e-mail yesterday with a discount rate - though there was no PIN code in it - and it was only something like 25% off for some nights (not all nights) through September 29.

In previous years, the PIN codes have been as good as 35% off, and often times the PPH's rates were as low as $129 - $179 per night. I doubt that we'll see anything that good again - unless Disney's hotels hit a slump where no one is staying onsite.

Just received that same PIN offer up to 09/29/12 a second time. My dates are Oct. so still not a useful one

I just got a pin code for now to 9/29 but when I called to book there were no rooms in our price range for the dates we already have booked at an off site hotel. Bummer :(

Got a PIN yesterday for 8/12 - 9/29/12, but dates are not useful or only match AP pricing.

I've gotten them a few times using the trick, but none this year. I am hoping for some sort of promotion even for my mid-October dates, but I am not counting on it. Things are much different this year because of Carsland. But a CM did tell me that if something were to come out for my dates, it should be out by the end of this month. Here's hoping!

This is exactly it. Because the whole 4-year sprucing up of DLR (including the Disneyland Hotel, Carnation Cafe, Gibson Girl, Candy Palace, etc.) is complete for now, culminating with 2 new lands in DCA, the prices for everything went up and/or the discounts are not as substantial.

For a while, even though AP's were being purchased in great numbers and people were still flocking to the parks, the actual DLR hotels were lacking in onsite bookings. I remember back in 2008 & 2010, I discovered that there was a lot of availability at the DLR hotels all the way up until immediately before Christmas. This is likely because so many people were staying off-property.

Even as recently as last year, my friends from out of town were arranging their December DLH stay only a few weeks before their arrival. That was amazing - that the DLH would not be fully booked in the first few weeks of December, as it had previously been.

Now, because of the curiosity about all the new stuff in DCA and due to the construction being gone, I think a lot of people are going to end up back at the DLR hotels. I assume Disney is anticipating this to happen, and so the PIN codes and non-PIN code discounts will probably not be very good, if they come along at all.

Another thing that seems to "help" to get PIN codes is a previous onsite stay, like within the last 12 months or so. I was thinking, "Oh, well, of course I'll get some kind of nifty PIN code rate e-mailed to me for this coming December because I just stayed onsite this past December."

And then I remembered - my December 2011 PPH room was not booked through the usual Reservations people. I had to go outside of the Reservations system and book through a whole different non-reservations department of DLR (because it was a special exclusive offer I received that had to be booked that way). I never dealt with any Reservations people the entire time. I only dealt with Special Activities. The Reservation was made through them and it did not go through the regular network.

So, therefore, I don't think my onsite stay last December will do anything at all to "help" me get a PIN code this year. Drat!

Sherry, could you direct me to your exact instructions? Or maybe explain them here? I've read a LOT about these PIN codes but never been offered one. I've seen discounts come through my destination disney emails, but I have not been sent one of those in months.

It seems like Early-Mid September is when a lot of people are getting offer codes for, but none can take advantage of them. The week after most schools start (so the week of September 9th) is when I'm hoping to go (short notice, I know) and I want to stay on site, but it's so much more spendy than I remember and a discount would help, for sure. Any advice? I used to get those destination disney emails, but since it's been 4 years since my last visit, I think they gave up on me.

Rainforest_Elf!

I haven't seen you around here for a while!

Somewhere or another I typed up the instructions, step by step, and posted them in a past thread - but who knows where that went? It was quite a while ago.

First of all, I have a feeling that PIN codes will not be abundant this year, or if and when they are sent out they may not be for the time frames we want. That was starting to happen last year too - people were beginning to get offers for time frames when they couldn't go.

I think that Disney sends (or sent) out offers for times when they expect to be less busy. So if they are currently sending out offers for early/mid-September, it's probably because they expect there to be fewer guests and bookings at the hotels during that time frame. Generally, Disney has kind of scaled back sending out PIN codes for weeks when they expect to be busy.

This year is a question mark because of Cars Land and Buena Vista Street. Disney may expect that the new California Adventure will lure in the masses all year long (whether that happens or not is anyone's guess), and they may not send out as many offers because of it.

The way that it worked for me - twice - was that I specifically created a My Disneyland account (which is no longer an option, as I just discovered). Some people have not gone directly to the Disneyland Resort page. They have instead gone through the Disney.com (or My Disney) portal and followed that path.

I think that there are ways "they" (Disney; their computers, etc.) can tell which portals we are using to get to which places on their sites, so therefore they can send out offers based on things we simply looked at.

I think that if people go in through the Disney.com or My Disney portal, that will open them up to more offers for WDW and maybe fewer specific offers for Disneyland.

So that is why I advised going directly to the Disneyland Resort website. Do not go through Disney.com to get there. Go directly to DLR's page.

Make sure you create a specific "Disneyland" account if you don't already have one.

Make sure you sign up for all the mail offers and updates, so check every box where it asks you if you want to receive mailings.

Once you are signed into your Disneyland account, pull up the hotels and plug in your dates to get the quoted rates. I would try for Room Only (or whatever it is called now) and not a package - in other words, just price the rooms themselves, and do not include tickets in the package.

After you have done this, there should be a "Save" option somewhere near the bottom. I haven't done this since last year so I don't know if the layout of the page has changed, but somewhere under your hotel quote there should be a Save option for you to save the offer. There used to be a Save Offer option when I did it.

Once you have Saved your hotel quote with your plugged in dates, leave it there. Don't book anything. Don't buy anything on the site. Don't do anything but leave the Saved offer in your Disneyland account.

IF the PIN trick still works at all, you may get an offer fairly soon (since September is close).

What will happen is that Disney's system will see that you went directly to the Disneyland page (not through the Disney.com portal), pulled up an offer and showed interest in staying onsite for a specific time frame (but not at their crazy rates). IF they have a PIN code to send out at that time, they may send it to you. There may not be anymore available if they have already sent a bunch out that have not yet been claimed, but you can try! Can't hurt to try.

It may not work anymore, but that's how it worked for me in the past, two years in a row, and it worked for some other folks I suggested it to as well.

Update/correction to my previous post -

I see that the specific "My Disneyland" option is no longer on the DLR main page. It was definitely there when I did the PIN trick in the past. I see My Disney at the top, but that's not what I used. There definitely used to be a My Disneyland sign-in area on the right side, as well as a My Disney option high up on the page. They got rid of "My Disneyland."

So, since I don't see My Disneyland anymore, just go to the left side of the page, under Disneyland, where it says create an account or sign in. I would still start on the specific Disneyland Resort page and not the Disney.com page, but instead of My Disneyland you'll be signing in a different way. Go to the "Places to Stay" tab and do it that way. See what happens. It may or may not work.

Thank you so much Sherry, I really appreciate the tips! I won't be booking the trip for at least another week, so hopefully airfare doesn't go crazy during that time. I figured if I can save even a little bit, it will be worth it.

I know, it's been awhile since I've been around. It's hard for me to read and see people's plans when I don't have any myself :( so that's why I've been gone... but now that I got one in the works, lookout! You're gonna get sick of me! :rotfl:

Just want to add that I received a PIN for my dates even though I had already made a reservation (and paid a deposit but not a final payment) for those dates. So making the reservation doesn't necessarily mean they will exclude you from a PIN offer. In my case, making the reservation earlier actually worked better for me than the PIN rate because as the dates got closer, the rates went up. I checked the rate without the PIN using my earlier rate and with the PIN using the later rates and they were virtually the same. So I guess I'm saying don't wait too long hoping to get a PIN because the rates could go up. If the rates go down, you can always change your res to the better rate up until final payment.

I just wanted to update everyone that I got a discount offer, following Sherry's instructions of saving my dates. It took about 36 hours from the time I saved my offer to when I got the email which states the following:

Stay in the middle of the magic in September with rates starting from:
-$240* per night in a standard room at Disney's Paradise Pier® Hotel
-$300* per night in a standard room at Disneyland® Hotel
-$355* per night in a standard room at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel® & Spa

Valid for arrivals most nights 9/3/12-9/6/12, 9/9/12-9/13/12 and 9/16/12-9/20/12.

Now I just need my boss to approve my vacation days and we are SET! Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!
