So, we went ahead and paid in full for our November cruise....hopelessly optimistic I guess...but I had a question....what happens to your room if you don't pay in full by the date? Is it automatically cancelled? Or is it still yours up until sailing if no one else books it? We've always paid in full before our date but I realized I don't really know how it works if you don't! Just curious!

If you don't pay in full by the PIF date, the reservation is canceled. And you lose whatever money you have paid toward it.

Okay...that's what I always figured...I just realized when DH and I were going back and forth about pay/not pay...that I didn't actually KNOW the answer.

Just noticed your ticker and saw you've been on 25 cruises!! Wow!! Curious to know if you have a hands down favorite? We've only cruised twice so far, both times on the Dream, same itinerary. Our November one is supposed to be a slightly different itinerary...mexico instead of the bahamas...but still on the Dream. I'm hoping to branch out soon...would love to hear some input from a seasoned DCLer!

Well, we've only done 12 of those cruises on DCL. Been on all four ships. I like the smaller, Magic class ships better than the Dream class ones.

We prefer the long cruises, so we've been on east and west bound trans Atlantic, Panama Canal, Southern Caribbean, and B2B East/West Caribbean. As well as Hawaii, Mexico and Bahamas.

trying to sell DH on the longer cruise! Our first cruise we did the 4 night bc we’d never cruised before and he was worried about seasickness. Then we repeated that cruise again bc DH and DD fell in love with the Dream. I sold them on a 5 night dream for the next one....but I’d like to switch ships eventually to do a 7 :)

Since you’ve only sailed the Dream, you can’t tell us what you like better, but what have you enjoyed?

The Fantasy is the same class / layout as the Dream and has been doing 7 night cruises for years. I keep seeing references to problems on the Fantasy, but I don’t know if they are evident to most cruisers. My sister and family did a 7-night Eastern Caribbean St Thomas, Tortola, Castaway Cay) last September and brought home no stories of ship issues.

So, basically doing a Week on the Dream, just some decorating variations.

when we went on our first cruise 3 years ago, we didn’t know what to expect at all....but it was hands down the BEST family vacation we’ve ever had. What we all liked the most was the simple fact that alone and apart, were all always having fun. DD loves kids club so DH and I could enjoy a night out at Palo knowing that she was having a blast. DD and DH love bingo so they’d head to that and I’d grab me time with a book on the verandah. DH likes to sleep in, so DD and I would wake early and hit the aqua duck a few times before he was ready to start his day. And, all 3 of us loved playing mid ship detective, dining in the MDRs, relaxing at castaway cay, etc... there’s just simply NO downside to us when it comes to DCL :)

eager to get back to cruising!

We did a 3-night, then a 4-night (5 months later) to test our seaworthiness. Oddly, those were the choppiest cruises as the water from PCanaveral to the Bahamas is routinely rough. Then it was on to the 7-night. Testing the waters is not a bad thing. The extra days make it a bit more relaxing. Three nights is basically get on the boat, blink, you are getting off.

You sound like Dream / Fantasy people - Aqua Duck, Midship.

Food, Palo, relaxation are great on both.

I think Magic and /or Wonder now has a drop-down slide, but the Aqua Duck is unique to the larger ships.

These cruises are great vacations. And a great place for kids to be able to build independence in a controlled environment.

I’m a Magic / Wonder fan, perhaps since I started on them. My first time on the Dream, I saw the Promenade and thought, “this is so long.”

I pretty much go by itinerary and price. A stop at Castaway helps with the decision. And avoiding hurricane season.

Yea, the independence was huge for us. I joke that I gave birth to an adult...DD has always been super mature...but out in the world, it’s hard to give her the freedom she would like....on the ship....after one round of midship, she knew the layout better than we did...so we’d let her play the same round herself while DH and I started on another deck. She LOVED it!

Sounds like we may be on the same November cruise. We're holding out hope that we'll sail. Crazy and unlikely? Yes.... But we're still hoping!

But if PIF, and it's cancelled we get our money back?
If Disney cancels the cruise, you will be able to get a refund of the full amount you have paid.

If Disney cancels, you may be given a choice of receiving a full refund or applying the full amount to another cruise with an additional amount (recently, 25% of the cost of the cancelled cruise) as an on-board credit during the new cruise.

For cruises booked before August 31, 2020 that depart through March 31, 2021, Disney Cruise will allow guests to move to another cruise that departs prior to April 1, 2022, with no penalty up until 15 days before sailing. This is valid only for moves, not cancellations — if you cancel after your final payment due date, penalties will still apply.

GET UP TO A $1000 SHIPBOARD CREDIT AND AN EXCLUSIVE GIFT!

If you make your Disney Cruise Line reservation with Dreams Unlimited Travel you’ll receive these incredible shipboard credits to spend on your cruise!
