I've watched Mamma Mia quite a few times since it started showing on HBO last week. I love ABBA music! But, I just have to turn the sound down each time when Pierce sings. :headache:

Beautiful eye candy :faint:, but a singer, not so much. :upsidedow

 I have watched Mama Mia 4 times and he still hasn't improved:rotfl2:. Susan

I'm finally used to it. I guess we have to give him props for even trying. Pretty brave to put it out there like he did. I read last year that he said his family begged him not to sing in the house when he was rehearsing, lol!

You would have thought he'd have gotten a clue from that. :rotfl2:

you know, after watching it 5 or 6 more times this week since HBO has been showing it not to mention the 3 times I saw it in the theater plus I own the DVD, I think he is starting to grow on me and I am seeing the charm in it! Once I watch it another dozen or so times I may actually become a fan!

I found his singing to be charming, but I wasn't expecting him to be a great singer :goodvibes

when you're that gorgeous it's easy to get past!!!::cloud9:rotfl2:

I've seen it a bunch of times since it started on HBO as well and you're right, his singing never gets better. But there's just something about seeing/hearing the former James Bond doing ABBA music that I can't resist :rotfl:

I think that is part of the charm of the movie. No one is supposed to be a professional singer and that is part of the reason the casting was done this way. Even Pierce admitted that he could not sing and could not understand why they wanted him to sing.

I agree, but I loved it anyway! :goodvibes

(And thanks to him and the other guys in the movie, the men in my family enjoyed it as well. :thumbsup2 )

That's so funny, I was just thinking about that yesterday. I wish they had cast better singers. If they did this in purpose - I don't agree with their decision

One other thing niggles at me with the way it was cast - don't you think they are all too old. They are in their 50's and she got pregnant 20 years before. That would make them all in their 30's when it all happened and far too old to be behaving that way. Wasn't she supposed to be the same age as her daughter when she got pregnant? So it would be more appropriate to cast actors who are in their 40's IMO. Hope that made sense.

Don't get me wrong I like most of the actors in this movie, just not IN THIS movie. And I do like the casting for the younger characters.

Yeah, I was incredibly disappointed in that movie. They totally could've picked better singers!

I agree. I am glad the actors actually sang and not faked it with professional singers.

I like it when the actors sing as well, but I think it is ruined when they are so horrible. I distracts you from the movie and you are thrown out of the mood.

Moulin Rouge used the actors and it worked very well, I thought. Ewan McGregor isn't a great singer but reasonable enough that you stayed 'in' the movie.

Another actor in Mama Mia that could go, IMO, was Julie Christie - oh she was bad. Christine Baranski totally carried it when they sang. Now, she can sing. Meryl Streep wasn't too bad either, I thought she did a good job of The Winner Takes it All, it's a very hard song to sing.

LOL! Definitely eye candy! Though..maybe he should just speak the lyrics. With that Irish brogue that might make up for it. ;)

The actors are not the ages of their characters. Just let that go. And don't try to really think into the movie (like when, exactly, were they in Donna and the Donnettes, if Donna got pg so young...and why is Sam trying to give Donna on kid-raising advice "I've raised 2 grown sons", when his kids are YOUNGER than Sophie?).

I've watched MM probably 30 times now (my son loves it, and he's still young enough that he doesn't get the naughtiness), and at about the 20th time, I started liking Pierce's voice. Still can't really watch him, but I can't watch him when his mouth is moving anyway, so that's not a difference for me.

I also watched the special features where you see them rehearsing, and it sounds so much better in that, than in the dubbed scenes.
