hi everyone

well its not too long now till our trip, I have been reading posts on the main dis website. We are staying at a days inn in tampa for 2 nights so that we can make the most of busch gardens and would like to visit a beach, there are quite a few recs for pier 60 at clearwater in the evening to see the sunset, they also have jugglers and craft stalls etc. I was wondering if anyone had done this?

thanks

We stayed right at the side of it, in the Hilton. It was OK for 1st night for an hour or so but very repetative after 7 nights there. Not an enjoyable experience for us Clearwater, so wished we had stayed in Orlando. If you like beaches then is OK for a day or 2. We don't so spending a week there was a big mistake.

I agree. It is really nice beach place and Pier 60 was great for a nite or 2. Glad we went there but would rather have stayed in Orlando for the extra week (which is what were doing this year :yay: )

We took a drive down to Clearwater for a day trip in 2005. When we went it was the 10th anniversary of Pier 60 and there were fireworks and live bands on to entertain the masses.
As we got there reasonably early we also went out for a trip on this

and did some dolphin spotting in the Gulf of Mexico.

I agree, stayed a week there before and it was too long, a couple of nights is plenty for me, problem is i think we get spoiled by all the choice in Orlando....Beautiful beach though.

i got married on the beach right next to it :)
I loved it! they had a group on every night near by too
Has anyone else seen the alien guy on the pier????

Haven't benn since 2001 and I think Clearwater has become more built-up since then. We had no children then so it was lovely to walk on the beach, watch the sunset and go on the Pier and eat grouper:thumbsup2. Like most others have said, a night or two is enough.
Does anybody know if the Clearwater Beach Hotel it still there, if not, what is it now? We would like to go down for a night or two on our next trip.

Clearwater is one of the best beaches in Florida though like many beach locations is best suited to a short stay.

There is a lot of work going on at Clearwater at the moment including the new 'beach walk' which will stretch over a few miles on the actual beach itself.
Plus a lot of hotel renovation, a lot of it fairly close to pier60.

Anna Maria island is nicer, quieter but not as much going on.

'beachhunter' is an excellent site for reviews and information on Florida beaches.
