Hi I just got home and went to load my pictures on the PC and I was getting errors. I could see my pictures on the camera but they were not working on the PC. I deleted a "blank" picture on the camera and now when I turn on my camera it says "Card Set UP - Format Disk now YES/NO. And on the PC I cannot read any files it just says "The disk is not formatted."

I am thinking the disk is corrupted and I have lost my 200+ pictures. Is there anything I can do to get them off the disk?? I am assuming that if I format, the pictures are gone...

:confused3

I'm no expert, but..., last December, I thought I'd lost 90+ pics. My camera bleeped that the batteries were low then shut down. After replacing the batteries and turning the camera on again, I had a black screen with CARD EMPTY on it!

Well, I was very upset to say the least (loads of DD with characters, Santa, at CRT, etc). When we got back to the hotel, I called the camera manufacturer and a very nice man told me about a recovery program that can be run. He even offered to do this for me and burn my photos on a disc.

I sent of my card and a few weeks later, a CD with all but 2 images dropped through my mailbox!

I think there is a photography section somewhere here on the Dis and I'm sure someone else will be able to give you better advice but please don't panic too much and I hope that all your images can be recovered soon!

I have used this program when my son had problems with a memory card. There are other programs out there that may recover your images. Just don't do anything with the card until you get one of these programs. DO NOT FORMAT the card or you will lose the images.

Wow!! I was just about to format the card. Thanks for the information!! Has this happened to anyone else???

Once you have successfully recovered the images then you will want to format the card. That is why I suggest to everyone not to buy a huge memory card. Use several while you are out. That way if anything happens to one card you still have pictures on another.

Even with a recovery program you might not get them all back. I have had this happen and put the card in and out of my camera over and over again until it finally worked. Then I used the cables to transfer the picture. DO NOT REFORMAT until you get the pictures off or recovered with the software.

And I wanted to say I am so sorry :( I know how frustrated you are right now.

Thanks again everyone. Thanks to the recovery software I was able to recover all but two corrupt pictures!! :cool1:

safetymom - Yes this was disk three out of three and had only our last two and a half days on it. Still would have been a shame to lose it but at least we would have had the rest of the trip...
