Pictures of DW after Hurricane Charley

Thanks for posting the pics. I was wondering what things looked like down there. Hope Fort Wilderness didn't get too much damage.

Considering the intensity of the storm, the damage shown is these pictures appears very limited. Hopefully, FW faired as well.

We just returned today from two wonderful weeks at FW - and three at Port Orleans Riverside

Disney did a great job in handling the evacuation and re-opening of FW. We were kept informed every step of the way, and felt very safe during the storm.

Actually, Tom Sorrells, the weatherman from Channel 6 is a former weather man in Detroit, so we were very comfortable watching him. He was also the only one saying all morning that the storm would hit near Fort Meyer and not Tampa.

We also learned that being a camper has its advantages. We just loaded up the cooler with food and drinks and rode out the storm.

After returning to the campground we drove around a few of the loops and took some pictures of the damage. Thank goodness that none of the structures took any direct hits that we could see. One playground area was closed, and both a cart path and walking path to the Settlement Trading Post were blocked by downed trees. Both paths were cleared on Thursday.

The 400 and 500 loops looked to be the hardest hit, along with significant flooding in the 300 loop. We didn't get around to all of the loops, so there is probably some additional damage we didn't see.

From the looks of things it will take several weeks to clear away all of the downed trees. However, the campsites are in good shape, and by the time we left on Saturday morning we only saw yellow tape at a playground by the 300 loop and around a section of side walk near the 1400 loop that will have to be replaced.

The good news is that the work seemed to be proceeding quickly and that FW is, and will continue to be, a beautiful campground.
