I gave our old camera to our 10 year old.

He used it on our recent trip to Williamsburg and Jamestown.

ALL the pictures came out with a very distinct blue tone. Overly blue. I played with the settings a bit and adjusted as much as I could, but it is a P&S and there is only so much adjusting.

What is the issue? I am thinking this camera has just seen it's better day, but I hate throwing things away until I am sure I have exhausted all possible options.

Thanks,

Dawn

Might be a white balance issue. Sounds like he may have set the white balance to the tungsten setting.

I agree, it sounds like a white balance issue.

Looks like the Sony DSC-S85 has a menu option to change the White Balance. You've got 4 choices for white balance on this camera: (1) Auto, (2) Indoor, (3) Outdoor, and (4) One-push manual.

Check to make sure that the white balance is set to Auto.

Thank you!

It was set to "indoor" for some reason!

I have re-set it and will try some pictures outdoors tomorrow.

It is still a decent camera. My only real beef (if the color is now fixed) is that they no longer make the memory card for this camera and the thing is very finicky....it will only take the original BLUE memory cards. The black Sony cards and the Sandisk made for Sony won't work on this thing! It also won't take the new cards with the adapter.

GRRRR!!!!!

Anyway, thank you very much.

THANK YOU ALL!

Took some pics this am outdoors and they turned out fine.

Thankfully we had a couple of other cameras on our vacation, so those aren't really necessary to keep (the blue tinted ones).

I did this with my first point and shoot, I had no clue about white balance then. Since I coudln't really correct the color without some serious issues I converted the images all to black and white. They ended up being some of my favorite shots.

Great idea.

Thanks,

Accidentally leaving my DSLR on tungsten for outdoor shots, in JPEG mode, is what MADE me start shooting in RAW. Luckily, I didn't take too too many shots with that setting. Converting them to b&w is a pretty good suggestion though. Luckily, I don't have to worry about that now though.

Thank you for this.

I went back in to iphoto and clicked on each pic and then played with them. Some of them, when I clicked on "antique", were restored to a normal range color......others looked great in B&W or Sepia. Since these were photos of Williamsburg and Jamestown it was a perfect touch!

Thank you for telling me about your little trick. The photos look great!

Add another person to that list! It's been 8 months since I bought my DSLR and I continue to forget to check my WB before I start shooting - I've just about decided to go with a 'pilot' style of checklist taped to the back of the camera...

You don't have to worry about WB with RAW though. You can easily change it in post, and all of the wonderful colors will still be there.
