Hello...

We'll be first time cruisers in April and were wondering about having a family "portrait" done while on board. Can anyone tell me if, when the photos are taken, are they done w/out the backgrounds. I've seen some of the cruise photos, and not to offend, but I'm not crazy about some of the "cheesy" backdrops. Is there any "nice" places to have a family photo taken?

Thanks...

Portraits are done in the evening with and without the backdrops you've seen. The most common portrait without a backdrop is done in front of the statue (Mickey or Ariel) in the atrium. I've also seen them done on stairs in the Atrium and, in the case of my last cruise, in front of a large ginger-bread house.

No reason you couldn't ask a Shutters' photographer to take a portrait where ever you wanted. I think deck 4 would be a nice place, for example. Such a portrait would likely be without the umbrella strobes they setup in the evening, though.

On our recent cruise I did see nights where a traditional blue or brown background were set up for portraits. We also got a nice picture in front of Mickey outside of Lumieres.

For a price I think that they would arrange a picture where ever you would like

We had a lot of family portraits taken, and some of them were with the more plain backdrops including a plain blue-tan background.

Some of the other plainer backgrounds they have are:

The ocean at night with the moon reflecting in the water. This one is kind of dark, the sky is dark blue with a few light clouds and stars, and the moon.

A plain sunset over the ocean. In this one the sky is light orangey-tan , clouds, and the water looks dark. Ok, I just double-checked this one, and since there were 4 of us, we mostly block it out, but there is a "bow of the ship" in the background, but its not very noticable.

If you click on the link below, in my signature, it will take you to my web site, and under the "Disney Cruise" heading, there's a page called "DCL Souvenirs". Click on that and you can see some of the pictures that we had taken by the ships' photographer, including the 2 I mentioned above.

Like others have mentioned, they will also take your pic in front of the Mickey statue in the atrium, and other "neutral" places on the ship.

Have fun! :)

Thank you so much for the information. I'm a bit time delayed lately and haven't been able to get on line much.

I guess we'll check it out when we get there. I wouldn't mind one with Ariel. And if they offer the plain, simple, traditional blue/beige backgrounds, that would be perfect!

Thanks again and I hope everyone has a great New Year!!
