I've had Nikon's PP for about 1 1/2 yrs. it came with my D 80. No problems until now.
I hope I can explain this good enough::

1. Can't upload an sd card in (numeric) sequential order in its own file. Pics are loaded in-between others and also
2. some have duplicate file names..i.e. DSC_0002.JPG on 2 different photos.

Well...
Example of # 1 =
when I'm uploading pics, it (PP) puts them "out" of sequence and in-between other posted photo's. DSC_ 0003.JPG AND DSC_0003.1JPG (2 diff pics)
Example of # 2=
I'll have exact duplicate file names and 2 different pics on others.

Have I reached a numeric limit in PP??
Do I move my PP to a backup and start over??

Making me nutz..Any help appreciated..please:sick:

First of all, be patient. Only an hour had passed from your original post, and you're already re-posting "Anyone?????????".

Your camera's file naming convention only allows a four-digit number, between 0001 and 9999. So, what happens after the camera has taking pictures "DSC_0001" through "DSC_9999"? It starts over with DSC_0001. In other words, the cycle of file names starts over every 10,000 images. When the software is trying to import a new picture onto your computer, but there's another picture in that folder with the same name, it adds an additional sequential digit to the name of the new file rather than overwrite the original. Try sorting chronologically rather than by file name.

You can change the settings on your software so that when images are imported they are renamed to something unique instead of keeping the name that the camera gave them. If you have the software name the files by date (YYYY-MM-DD) and time taken (HHMMSS) you should never have a problem. For example, if you took a picture at 12:01 today, the file would be renamed 2008_12_29-120100. If you took three shots in a row, at one shot per second, the files would be named 2008_12_29-120100, 2008_12_29-120101, and 2008_12_29-120102. If you shot more than one image in the same second (burst mode), the software will add an additional sequential digit to the end of the file name.

A day has passed, not an hour.

Not a problem and.....

Many Thanks..GrillMouster & annnewjerz.....;)

I'll give that a try..probably tomorrow. I did remember a thread in the past but couldn't find it.

FYI on Picture Project. Nikon has discontinued that program. Your probably better of switching over to Nikon Transfer (also a free Nikon program). When you transfer the files from the card to the computer you can automatically have it set up with as many digits as you'd like. So that when you do go over 10,000 shutter clicks and the camera goes back to zero, your new file name will automatically be set to 10001.jpg. I think PP can do this as well, but its been a while since I've used it.

Also Transfer will allow you to have the transfered images go to 2 different files. I have it setup to go to 2 different hard drives. This helps for backup purposes.

If your shooting RAW, then Transfer is especially nice to use because once the upload is done it will automatically open ViewNX (or CaptureNX if that is what you use) so you can then make post processing adjustments and/or convert easily to JPEG.
