Thats an interesting photo of the old boat along the island that was called Discovery Island. Here is an older photograph/graphic of the same boat at teh same site when the island was called Treasure Island. Time changes things. Its sort of sad to see the island unused and overgrown.

I hope one day Disney decides to make something useful of that island

When I was a kid, one of my favorite memories of Disney was taking a pirate cruise (this was back in probably the early to mid 80's), and they dropped us off right next to that pirate ship. We had a big campfire, and roasted marshmallows, and one of the cast members kept on burping and blaming it on frogs.

To be honest, when I look back on it, it seems that some of the cast members were either drunk or stoned, they were just crazy!!! That was a great "pirate cruise" though, it lasted for a few hours and we all just sat on the beach and sang songs, ate, and played games. Too much fun

This is a great photo. I had seen it somewhere, but never made the connection. It is also good timing since we had been discussing the area that WL is built on,http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1453438 and we get a peek in this pic!!!!

Your sunset pictures are beautiful and so peaceful, I can't stop looking at the picture of the dock. I love early morning and sunset at WDW, I have some very pretty pictures of the Polynesian's silhouette with the sun setting behind it as we went by on the ferry.

Just curious...is that the lake on Ft Wilderness? The one you're not suppossed to swim in because of all the bacteria? Creepy.

There is a great photo on the resorts board under vintage resort photos - it shows all the kids at the dock/beach at FW swimming in the lake.

i love this thread, brings back so many fun memories.
I have to say those people swimming in the lake for the triathalon just made me gag When I was little it was still OK to swim in there and really it was quite clean...but I know it is no longer the case and I can only imagine the cases of duck rot that came out of that ironman group ewwww yucko !!!
