Thanks so much for the pictures. That was a real treat.

I had planned to stay the night before the cruise at the Holiday Inn - San Pedro. We won't be arriving until close to midnight and plan to head to the port after check out. So, we don't need any sort of great location. However, we are planning to use the park and cruise option at the Holiday Inn. Is the hotel in a bad area? Will we feel safe for the night and leaving our car there for the week?

Your car should be fine while your away esp. if the hotel offers a "park and cruise option". Just make sure your insurance is up to date...LOL just kidding!

I tell you, just like any big city there are good areas and bad areas. As long as you stay in the good areas you are fine. If your driving around and your gutt tells you to turn around, do so.

Side note: I went to high school in a shady part of Long Beach, CA (Long Beach Polytechnic H.S.). I still can't believe my parents let me go there. I look back at the gang people (Snoop Dog) I knew and all the aspiring sports stars like Willie McGinnist of the NE Patriots and Cameron Diaz these two graduated in my class of '90. Crazy.

great pictures since we live local it was fun to see them we will be going down there next month to have our income tax done. going to have my husband drive us to port on day of cruise we are so happy we don't have to fly to cruise.

That is very cool that you went to school with so many celebrities. I don't know any.

I have the same feeling whenever I go back to my old neighborhood. I grew up in San Francisco. I can't believe that I was allowed to walk to and from school alone when I was 8 years old. It wasn't a bad neighborhood but it certainly wasn't the best either. I loved it there and loved the freedom too.

Just wanted to share that my family and I went over the Vincent Thomas bridge over looking the harbor where the Mickey boat will be at night, recently. Instead of white bulbs there's blue and the view over the bridge was so pretty. I wish I had my camera ready!

Hi tchrmom,
We were asking the same thing. What I found out is that Enterprise will not rent one way ( pick up at one place, drop off at a different place) But Hertz will and they are 6.1 miles from the port. They will bring you to the port if they have an avalible employee, but if they don't , they will take $ 10.00 off your total bill and call you a cab. We are renting an SUV for $36.89 a day with a AAA discount. Hope that helps.

Yes, That is what they said. They will pick you up at the port in CA.

The closes to San Pedro is Downtown Long Beach, 555 East Ocean Blvd. Long Beach, Ca. The phone number to that office is 562-432-7973. I booked online but called the long beach office to get info because the general reservation line can't give you all the info.

I've searched every where I can think of to look for a web cam to view the Wonder/ Magic while in port at San Pedro. I tried local newstations and even typed in related names for the port, with still no luck. Do any of you out there on the west coast have any ideas?

Here are some I took, but they did not come out very clear, either.
First of all, they wouldn't let me take any pics of the terminal from the terminal property
(the guard kicked me out & someone else honked their horn at me, so I had to take pics
from across the street and while driving on the Vincent Thomas Bridge, so there are
fences blocking my way. I will also try & take better pics, too.

First of all - this is a map of the Los Angeles area that shows Disneyland, the 5 major airports,
and Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro (The City of Los Angeles owns a strip of land that goes
all the way to the ocean, so if anything happens, the City of Los Angeles will have control
of the harbor - that is why it's called the Port of LA, even though it's in San Pedro).

I work close to the LAX airport, so I drove there, and taking the 105 to the 110 freeway,
I went to the port - it was 21 miles.

From the 110 freeway, take the Harbor Blvd Vincent Thomas Bridge exit. Get on the right lane
& get off on Harbor Blvd. Drive straight to the World Cruise Line from there.

Here is another map of San Pedro area. There are a couple of hotels you can stay at.
The Best Western is right there on Harbor Blvd. A few streets back is the Sheraton Hotel,
which is 10 stories & a nice hotel.

Across the way are the huge cranes at work. Past the terminal to the right is Ports O' Call --
Back in the 70's this was a really fun place to go. It's lost that trendy touristy feel,
but there are some good restaurants there, and some interesting shops.

One of my favorites is Acapulco's, where you can sit on the patio & watch the big ships
go by & the smaller boats out in the water.

The Norwegian Star passes the Acapulco patio while some people eat (& probably
wonder why I'm taking a pic, lol)

Thanks for the great pictures Mary Jo! Even though I live only 2 hours from the port, it's been a long time since I've been there so it's great to get a visual. We will be taking a trip up there sometime before our cruise.

I talked to the DCL agent, and was told that you can get roundtrip transfers from DCL to LAX for $49. It's $25 one way. They also have transfers to the Disneyland Resort hotels, if anyone is interested.
