We've selected a few places to eat which my 10 (turning 11) on trip will not eat from the adult menu. Can I BUY him a child's portion and just not use his voucher for that meal.

For example he wants to go to Sci Fi but he won't eat anything from that adult menu! My other alternative is to let him eat a desert for his dinner.

Also how long are the vouchers good for? If we don't use all can we use them on a quick trip the follow August?

Just to make sure we're on the same page, are y'all on the Disney Dining Plan? Because if you are, the plan ends when you check out of your hotel, and those credits don't carry over to another trip.

Can 2 people share a voucher?

If I used my voucher at Whispering Canyon Cafe and selected the nacho's as my appetizer could I let my son eat that. I get the Veggie Stew. And then my son would get my desert? There is just no entree for him!

Did someone just say that the Dining Plan ends as soon as you check out of the hotel? I thought you had until midnight of check-out day?!?!

You do have until midnight -- we did a split stay and checked out of hotel #1 (where we did have the dining plan) early in the a.m. and ate several more meals on the DDP that day.

As far as splitting, ordering for one child OOP etc . . . all of those things are allowed. We had a 10 year old last trip and generally either split with her or bought her a kids meal OOP, then we used the extra credits for an extra character meal and an upgrade to the CG one night. Even those people who object to using kids credits for adults shouldn't object to using a 10 year old's credits for an adult (since they're the same price).

You have until midnight of your check out day to use your credits. Yes, you can share your credits. Your DS can eat the appetizer and dessert and you can eat the entree. My mom and I have shared many meals on the plan. I've also shared with my DD6. The credits the restaurants charge you are based on your beverage count.

Hope this helps!

As it was explained to us by Aunt Elaine at 50's Primetime-the amount of credits they charge you is tied to the amount of beverages you order. Before we knew this we shared 1 meal at Spoodles and ordered 2 ice teas-we were charged for 2 meals. We straightened this out with the manager before we left Spoodles. After "Elaine" told us how they did it, we've had no further problems. If you are sharing a meal, order only 1 drink with that meal, and pay for an additional drink (inc. adult bev.) OOP. Does this help?

Added-also there is no difference on your credits as to adult or child-they are all pooled together.

If we go to a place and I want to pay for my meal and not use a voucher (while others did?) would that be possible?

Yes-just let the server know (assuming it's TS) that you're paying out of pocket (OOP). At CS, do the same with the cashier.

This thread has been really helpful.

What do you mean by no child credits? And are you given tickets or vouchers or is it a room charge style deal with the dining plan?

JR-what I mean by no child credits is that Disney does not differenciate between adult and child credits. When you check into your resort each member of your party will be giving a room card. That card will give you access to your room, park entrance and it includes your dining credits. There are no separate vouchers. It's all tracked by computer. When you use the DDP you will be given a receipt showing you how many TS, CS, or SC you have left. They will be all lumped (pooled) together. For example, if there are 2 adults and 1 child on the plan and you are staying for 8 nights, you will receive 24 TS, 24 CS, and 24 SC at the time of check-in which are good until midnight of your last day.

As for DVC I can't say but I'm sure someone else can.

Have fun!

You can order anything that you want and pay out of pocket for it just let your server know at the begining of your meal. When I went with my picky DS 12 in December there were just some places that he would not eat anything ont he adult menu. I ordered him a childs meal and paid for it out of pocket, just let the server know what you will be putting on the dining plan and what you will be paying oop for when you order. I had no problems doing this and we saved his crdits for a breakfast the last day. Also shared meals a couple of times because we were not that hungry and paid for an extra drink and dessert. As long as you let your server know ahead of time it should not be a problem
