We have a very picky adult eater in our group who eats all kids favorite foods---burgers, fries, chicken tenders, kraft macaroni and cheese, white rice with soy sauce on it, and pizza. Will he be able to find options at all the restaurants? Can we special order these items at sit down restaurants or are they readily available?

I would suggest checking out the menus at allearsnet.com to make sure there is something on the menu that your picky eater will eat. I am a very picky eater but I was able to find something to eat everywhere we ate.

OH dear sounds like my sister and brother inlaw going with you.....:rotfl: it is hard to get ressies at places as I have to be sure if they eat steak they have a baked potato and those are hard to find at WDW (Yachstman and Captain Grill) but this summer they both found out the do like fingerling potatoes so that is helping. and I hold my breath nothing green on the plate and if it is green beans they be torched not crisp green beans :rotfl: any sauces or strange sounding condiments freak them both out. but is my adventure to hunt these places down so were not eating chicken fingers and fries every meal or a hamburger or hot dog. I like to venture out and ONCE I can get them to at least try something new then they want to go there over and over and so this trip have couple of new places thrown in wish me luck:worship: they are fun other wise to travel with since my husband died however they love doing anything else it is just their food habits.:dance3:

My sister is a picky eater and I used to try to pick places where I knew she would find something she liked to eat. One evening I selected a place where no one else really wanted to go so my sister would find something she wanted. She ordered an entree sized salad and ate only the crotons. When I asked what was wrong with the salad she told me that the lettuce was "too green".

That was the last time I have let my sister's eating habits dictate where we eat. I don't think the rest of the dining party should forgo a dining experience to cater to someone's elses irrational food habits. Usually a restaurant can modify a dish to satisfy "normal" pickiness. Case in point...two posts up Worm considers herself a very picky eater, was able to find something satifactory everywhere they went. People who are out there on the fringe (lettuce too green) are, in my opinion, attention seekers and can eat a bowl of cereal when they get home.

Sounds like my husband!!! LOL - I agree- check out the menus before you make ressies - but he managed to find stuff to eat - especially the buffets, he was the one getting most of his food from the kids buffet! But he even enjoyed Ohana - he liked the chicken wings and the chicken and even tried the steak! Coral Reef was difficult for him, but that is my fav restaurant so he ordered the chicken breast and they let him get french fries instead of whatever it was supposed to come with.

The CS restaurants shouldnt be tricky - most have burger and pizza anyhow. Or if you can stick to alot of buffet meals it should make everyone happy.

For the record, I am a very picky eater, but not because I am attention seeking or anything else (in fact, just the opposite, I find it hugely embarrassing) but because I have a sensory integration disorder that makes it nearly impossible to eat certain textures or foods without real distress.

I know the "well it might be a disability!!" thing comes up a lot here, but for some people picky eating is a real problem and it's a bit hurtful to suggest that they're attention seeking brats just because they CAN'T eat the things that you consider to be "normal."

I was just at disney and managed to find things to eat. It wasn't always easy, but it was possible.

 for you, Figment. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

My ds eats WAY less than your picky eater. If my ds ate those things you listed I wouldn't even consider him a picky eater. lol

You guys will have no problems at most places.

Are you sure you are not in my travel party? I am a very picky adult eater (I don't even like ketchup or mustard) and I always find something everywhere we eat, except EPCOT, there is not alot of food in the countries that I eat. I can usually find a hamburger somewhere or I have ordered off the kids menu before. When we use the dining plan I always make the ADR so I know in advance if there is something I will eat there. Someone has already posted about allears.net and the menus. It is a lifesaver with picky eaters.
I also did some basic math based on the prices in the posted menus. We have four adult eaters and I am the only picky one. The rest of the family likes just about everything. We usually eat breakfast in the room (DVC members), lunch and supper in the parks, resorts or Downtown Disney. I found the resturants that we like to eat at (including buffets) and I added up the price for the most expensive meal that one of us would order (buffet or some kind of steak usually). I then multiplied it by 4. It actually came up cheaper than using the dining plan, since gratuity is not included in the dining plan, and several times we are too stuffed to eat the desserts and bring them back to the room anyway. The difference came up to about $200 for us. With tax and depending on the amount of snacking you do, it may be cheaper and less hassle (no carrying money) to stick with the dining plan.
The good thing about the dining plan is a lot of people get it free with their stay. Those of us DVC members must pay for the dining plan.
