hypothetical question for everyone

You have an autistic 11 yo
Eats chicken nuggets and the like
Family wants to go to carnivore night at 'ohana

What do you do? Not what do you think will or should happen, but what would you and your family do?

You play by the rules and ask if there can be some help. There are often things on a buffet that I love, but cannot eat due to dietary or physical limitations. While I’d like a discount, I can’t expect one.

'Ohana will provide kids with the usual kids options, so if the family wants to enjoy this meal, and your child either cannot or wll not touch the options available just ask the server for help.

This is not hypothetical for my family. The girls were not eating the food on the table, the server noticed, and nuggets and mac and cheese and pizza (I think) appeared.

I think that the issue in your question is that the child is 11 and that brings the cost to adult, which is a kicker. We still just deal with it if we choose places that will not "pay off" for mambers of the family. My DDIL had GBP surgery so while we can share at normal TS restaurants, any buffet or AYCTE restaurant is an almost total loss for us, but it is what it is.

They will bring kid friendly options. When we were there in November they brought chicken nuggets, Mac n cheese, fries, hot dogs, and ice cream for dessert. I get the frustration. My ASD kiddo is 5. She eats very little actual food. We still paid for her even though I think she ate 1 dumpling and a fry. Everyone else wanted to eat there. It was delicious.

Pay the appropriate charge for the child's age and ask for something from the alternate child's offerings. It would be our choice whether or not to go to the meal, understanding that we will pay the higher price. Heck, I am a 41-yo, and I can't eat nearly enough to get "value" out of 'Ohana, but we are still eating there this trip.
