Picking rental car up from WDW

I was thinking of not having a car when we go for the first few days as we are staying onsite at WDW - before we move to a villa.

It seems we can pick up a car from either the car care centre near MK or The Dolphin hotel.

I was thinking if I chose The Dolphin - we could go to Epcot on the day and then at some stage get a boat across there to collect the car.

In short - anybody have any experience of this? Is the desk open all day (can't seem to find this out) - do they just bring a car there for you.

Any information would be great. Thanks:thumbsup2

Yes - we have done this several times :)

I have a funny feeling the desk shuts quite early though. For some reason 4 rings a bell? I'll see if I can find my booking stuff.

You don't get to choose your car like you do at the airport which is the only downside for me.

Google says that hours of operation are 8-4, Mon-Sun.

There is an alternative, possibly cheaper. We picked up a car from the Double Tree Suites on the hotel boulevard by DTD - and dropped it off at the Airport.

It's an easy walk from the Marketplace and the desk was very quiet.

We do this every year, we get transport to either DTD then onto the hotel via another bus or we quite enjoy a bus to EPCOT followed by a nice walk through EPCOT (obviously you need valid park admission) to get to the Dolphin. This year we are planning on having a character breakfast at the Beach Club before going over to the Dolphin to collect the car.

The whole process is easy and valet will bring the car round, when you drop it off, just drive up to the entrance, give the keys to valet and you're done. Hope this helps, PM me if you need any more info x

Thanks everyone - the plan is to pick the car up from WDW and then return it to the airport at the end of our holiday. Before that we will be giving WDW buses a whirl

Miffy - thanks for the opening times - I thought I had read somewhere it closed about 2 - so it's good to know that it is later:thumbsup2

We usually split the holiday and do the buses at the start, picking up the hire car part way through. I see it as the best of both worlds - the buses are a novelty initially (plus it's the ideal opportunity for DH & I to both have a cocktail ;) ) and then, when we get itchy feet, we've got the car and getting offsite to look forward to as well.
