DH and I are planing our first trip to Disney World as a couple in late August (neither of us have been since we were 9!) and we've upgraded to the DXDDP as part of the free dining offer. We're both 25 and it's just the two of us for now (i.e. no kids). We'll be staying at POR and so we'll be traveling for most of our dinners, and making late evening ressies (around 9pm). We have 5 dinners and I want to make 4 of them signature restaurants (otherwise it would just be way too much food, and I'm a big foodie). I love trying new and exciting foods (and will eat almost anything) and DH is a big fan of fish, seafood, chicken, but doesn't like beef.

Our current plans:
Dinner 1: Chefs de France (our one non-siggie)
Dinner 2: Jiko (my pick, I'm SOO excited)
Dinner 3: Narcoosee's (DH's pick & we're excited about the whole lobster)
Dinner 4: California Grill (Sushi & fireworks!)
Dinner 5: Flying Fish OR Artist Point

It's this last decision that I really need help on. I love the idea of trying buffalo and the smoky portobello soup at AP sounds divine (and I think DH would like the Salmon or scallops). On the other hand we both love fish and it sounds like FF uses some really fresh ingredients grown on-site. We're both from the Pacific Northwest (which could be a plus or minus about AP) but have been living out in Rochester, NY for 3 years now (grad school). I've checked out (read: obsessed) over the menus for both places, and have read a bunch of reviews of each, but they both look good to us and which one is best seems to depend on the guidebook/forum.

I have been driving DH crazy debating between these two restaurants so I figured I'd spare him a few more months of wishi-washiness and put the question to you all.

Which would you pick (if you could only pick one): Artist Point or Flying Fish?
(Especially if you weren't traveling with kids?)

Thanks so much, and please excuse the excessively long buildup to the question :)

I haven't been to WDW yet, but I am soooo excited about our Artist Point meal. Just wanted to give my 2 cents, other than that I'm no help, lol.

Oh, that's a toughie!!

I love both, and they are always must dos....

I would have to say Flying fish...it is superb. Both the service and the food.

Later on take a stroll around the boardwalk ;)

Or if you would like a quiet drink, go and visit the Belle Vue Lounge in the boardwalk hotel.

Ahh....I wish it were december already!! :rotfl2:

Flying Fish. We go there almost every trip.
If it's just the two of you, you can eat at the bar (which we always do), or at the Chefs counter and watch them prepare the meals.

Both restaurants are great, so regardless of what you pick, you'll enjoy your meal.

With that said, I would recommend Flying Fish. We've eaten there every time we're at WDW, and we've never had a bad meal or left disappointed. Furthermore, you can stroll the boardwalk after (or before) dinner, stop by Big River and grab a brew, head over to Jellyrolls, etc. In short, they're both great restaurants, but FF has the benefit of a tremendous location that you can take advantage of, if you choose to do so.

Thanks everyone! It sounds like Flying Fish is the winner so I think that's what we'll go with. It's great to have all your input. I'm super excited!

I too, love both. Flying Fish is a great choice. But may I ask, why Chefs?? There are so many better options for a foodie!!!

we did flying fish on our trip in december 09 and it was the best meal and overall dining experience of our trip. the food is signature, the atmosphere is nice. the staff (especially bob) were fantastic. i haven't been to artists point yet... but have adr for this upcoming december for both artists point as well as flying fish.

We love both AP & Flying Fish but I think I would pick FF, then you can hang out at the Boardwalk.

I think Artist Point is the better of the bunch.

However, if I may complicate things further, Citricos is our favorite restaurant at WDW and I believe it's a signature : )

Engle: I totally understand the question. I don't think I would have picked Chef's just for the food, but it's a sentimental thing. DH and I started dating while I was studying abroad and our first big date was in Paris. (Also we're going to already be in Epcot, but that's much less of the reason).

My choice would hinge on what you want to do after. If you want the buzz and excitement of the boardwalk, then FF is it. However, I enjoy more intimate moments, quiet strolls down trails and along the beach. In that case, you can't beat AP. The smoky portobello is tremendous, as is the buffalo and/or the salmon. I've even had the scallops once, and they were superb. As others have said, either would be an excellent choice, so go with the one that best suits your needs AFTER dinner. :thumbsup2
