I have read someone picked out a pearl and had it mounted. :confused3 My questions is are they different colors shapes sizes and are they mounted on anything? If so what have you gotten or seen and what is an approximate price.

I would also like to know if the kmonos are nice to buy any suggestions on the differen countries in epcot would be great!!!! :thumbsup2

I was in Epcot last Friday and was watching this for awhile. It was $13.89 (I believe) to pick a pearl. Mounting is extra. You are not guaranteed any size or color. I watched for a few minutes, they were mostly around 7.5mm. They were white or a pinkish white.

This is so much fun to do. The first time I did it (2003) I got twins, they were a champagne color and I think 6.75mm. I had them mounted into maching necklaces for DD and myself. Also did another one and had it mounted for DM and gave it to her as a present for watching the kids while we went to disney. The setting for the necklace (gold) was about 27.00 and I picked the ones with our birthstones. In 2004 DD and her best friend did it and best friend got a black one. They each had them mounted in silver for about 11.00. Chain not included. In 2005 both DH and I got twins in ours. I am now saving them to have them strung for DD at my local jewerlers. Most common are champagne and about 7 - 7.5mm. I have found that it is very addicting!!!! But I keep going back. To have them mounted on average takes about 20-30 minutes!!! If you try it...good luck!!!! :cheer2:

Sounds like fun! I will have to try this on our next trip!

I bought a *beautiful* kimono in Japan several years ago. It's very lightweight and I take it with me every time we go to WDW. :)

Last year, my dh bought himself a silk robe in China. It's black with dragons embroidered on it and it is fabulous! I have to admit I'm a bit jealous of it, only because it's much heavier than the one I bought in Japan. He says if I really want one, I can get one this year -- it'll be my cold-weather robe! ;)

We did this with twin DDs when they were little and they loved it. I think you can also do this at DTD.:earsboy:

I did the pick a pearl thing in December. I got a beautiful pinkish pearl which was 7.5mm. I had it put onto a gold ring which looks lovely. I can't remember how much the setting on the ring cost though, sorry.

My dd5, my mother, and I all did this in January. It was really fun! My dd got the biggest pearl at 7.5 mm and hers had a pinkish tint to it. Mine was 7.25 mm and white, Mom's was 6.75 and "champagne gold." We all had them made into necklaces with matching mounts. I believe it was around $52 for the mounting, settings, for two of them that I paid for.

I had heard of this before we went, and really wanted the three of us to get matching pearl necklaces to commemorate our first trip to WDW. Plus, we were celebrating Mom's and dd's January birthdays, and my completion of grad school, so we really wanted a "nice" souvenir.

BTW, rumor has it that the best pearls are in the ugliest shells. Though they all looked fairly ugly to me!

My Daughter picked a beautiful silver colored pearl. They said it was rare and they rang a bell. The woman told me that 1 out of 100( If I remeber correctly ) come out this color. We had it made into a really nice ring for my daughter it was a pretty nice size too. We will be going back there again, :)

My daughter got a silver pearl, too, and they made a fuss over it and banged a gong. That was a couple years ago, and we didn't have it mounted then. So on our trip last month we took it with us and bought a chain and had it set in a necklace. That cost around $27. We also bought her a kimono, which was gorgeous, and cost $54. She doesn't wear it, though ... too straight and formal-looking. Thinking back I should have gotten her one of the shorter ones in China, that she could wear over her nightgown.

I had no idea about this, I can't wait. I will definately pick a pearl, my birthdate is in June and pearl is my birthstone---perfect for me!!! Thanks Everyone

Thanks so much for the responses. I am really looking forward to doing this with my 10 dd i want a ring and necklace. :cool1: :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

I have heard the same thing about the shells. I'll have to look at the ugly ones next time!!!!

I think you can do this at Downtown Disney, too. My DD, then 14, I think, really wanted to do this and we were staying at the Beach Club and there was a Pick a Pearl set up there that we saw every day. She did it the last day we were there and got a really beautiful white pearl, 10 mm! I was very surprised at the size and beauty of this pearl. We took it home and had it set locally and she wears it as a necklace. She loves it and it is truly a lovely piece. She still wears it regularly. I think girls will enjoy doing the Pick a Pearl because it's a surprise what pearl you will get.

I've done it 4 times -

Sea World in high school (80's) got a 9mm white pearl set in a CHEAP silver tone ring - roommate stole it :furious: (I was just a dumb kid back then...)

Next time I did it I got silver/black twins - around 7.5 mm - set as earrings - lost one

(Don't remember where we got it, but I know it was on WDW property)

Next one was a 8.5mm blue pearl no setting - also somewhere on WDW property

most recent was with DH in 2002 - 8 mm white/pink pearl set in 14 kt gold ring - pick a pearl cost 12.99 - setting was almost $200. Got this at Animal Kingdom.

Here are the three most recent...

Wanted to add - if you think you might get it set in the future, but don't want to at the time of purchase, you should get it drilled that day anyway. They become too brittle - no one will drill my blue pearl because it might splinter or shatter now.

I really want to do this when we go now!!! Where is best to do it, Japan, DTD, or Seaworld, but I think it was a lot more at Seaworld.

Thank you for those lovely photos :)
