Picking a certain car on RSR?

I'm glad to hear that they let you ride 3 and 1. I was in line when a CM was absolutely insistent that a party of 4 ride 2 and 2, so he could put one single rider with each row. They argued for a few moments and then relented, but I noticed when they boarded the car, they had re-arranged themselves: 3 in the front, 1 in the back and (what I presume were the two single riders) the SRs in the back. Sometimes I think the CMs are too focused on making sure the SRs don't end up together. I understand not accepting requests for SRs to ride together, but I don't understand breaking up a non-SR party just to make SRs ride separately.

Once we figured out this configuration works best for us, we've never had an issue when we have asked.

I don't get why they would do that either. I'm sure as a CM guests asking a million times to sit together in SR or guests in the regular queue asking for the front row can get frustrating. But I've read several posts on the Dis where certain CMs seem to go out of their way to be unaccommodating towards SR at RSR and Matterhorn. I wonder why?

Because guests use SR to avoid the line, but aren't willing to accept they the entire point of single rider is that you are filling empty rows and insist on sitting together. Essentially, that is using SR line as a way to cut the line since they are not agreeing to the basis behind the SR line existing.

I think the RSR CMs are that way because the SRL is fairly long and they don't want people getting the idea that it's even possible to request to be seated together as a means of avoiding waiting in the standby line. I can understand making sure the SR groups are split up, but I don't think they should do that at the expense of standby/FP groups that want to ride in a specific configuration/location.

At the Matterhorn, I've found that SRL to be one of the most inconsistent. I think it's because the configuration of the cars and the layout of the queue. The CMs can easily ask if there are groups of 'x' size to fill in a car and usually they'll find the right sized group; that does seem to be their preference opposed to using more than one SR. So the SRL can move very slowly. I've gotten to nearly walk on and other times it's taken 30 minutes to place two SRs. So there is no way to know how that line will go.

How frustrating! When DH and I use SR at RSR when we are alone, we don't expect AT ALL to ride together and are fine with that, or we would wait in the stand by line. I wish people would pay attention to and follow the rules.

At the risk of sounding like I'm defending them (I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt), I think some if it can be attributed to the "it can't hurt to ask" line of thinking. Think of this way: you get to the front of the SRL and ask if it would be possible to ride together or at least in the same car. If they say "yes", great...if not, no big deal.
