Pickey eater substitutions?

We are getting ready to go for our first time in three weeks. We got our tickets over six months ago and paid for the dining plan.

I am a very pickey eater and this has me worried the most believe it or not.

I headed to allearsnet after seeing the suggestions here, and there is almost nothing that sounds 100% good on the adult menu's.

I like a good steak, burger, regular chicken breast, etc with fries.

They talk about all the other stuff that does with it, do they let you request what you don't want with it, and maybe substute things that are on the kids menus like fries and such?

Also, I am up for suggestions on where to eat at Epcot.

We orginally booked at The Garden Grill Restaurant but I don't see much of anything there that I like.

I was thinking maybe the San Angel Inn for Chicken breast, but even that menu looks a bit scary to a pickey eater.

Why not experiment? Unless you actually have allergies the food will not make you ill. You might even find out that you like a variety of food.

I can't speak to the substitutions issue, but the consensus on these boards seems to be that Le Cellier in Canada is the best place for steaks/burgers in Epcot. I haven't eaten there myself, but we are looking forward to trying it on our trip in October. Also, it is a good value on the dining plan.

Actually my wife has gotten me to experiment with different foods, and I eat quite a bit more than what I used to.

But yes, if it is a food that I do not agree with, I get very ill. Sick for 2 days on a 6 day vacation is not what I have in mind for a family trip.

I have read some other threads on this issue since this post, and I guess you have a variety of things you can do. One you can order from the kids menu and have them charge that as an adult. Or as my wife suggested maybe letting my youngest see if he would like to eat what I order, and I eat what he ordered.

Other post show that the restaurants are very understanding and will subtract or add other things in place of items.

Time will tell.

I'm in the experimenting camp, too, but OTOH, nothing is worth getting ill over! Try a bite of this and that, though, you may be glad you did.

However, for your own meal, at Epcot, I would suggest Rose and Crown. Get the steak and prawns (fried shrimp)... I have a feeling from your post that you may not eat seafood, that is okay, the steak will fill you up. You can definitely get fries there (they call them chips.) And if you enjoy :drinking1 then that yard of beer they have at R and C will go a long way toward filling you up as well!

Good luck, I think you'll do better at Disney than you imagine.

My DH is a very picky eater as well - he doesn't eat cheese, pork, seafood, vegetables (except green beans), salads have to be just iceberg and french dressing only, and many many more stuff. Trust me, it's very difficult for him to find something he likes.

His favorites places to eat are:
- Le Cellier (great steaks, prime rib french dip sandwich). He usually just gets mashed potatoes or fries.

- 'Ohana - great for meat lovers - plenty of steaks and turkey meat to go around

- Kona - he always orders the Big Kahuna Burger. Nice big juicy burger made to order with side of fries.

- Whispering Canyon - good down home food - ribs, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, baked beans

- Beaches & Cream - again, great burgers and fantastic roast beef french dip sub. The ice creams are delish too.

I don't think you'll have a problem with the food. If you take a look at the food picture (food porn) thread on the sticky above, you'll see the variety of food that WDW has to offer, and believe me, there's always something that a picky eater can find even at a place like Boma. Don't worry about the fancy names and descriptions, often times they'll let you substitute the side dishes - you want mashed potatoes - they got plenty of that. You want fries instead - plenty of that too. Don't like the veggies, just ask for the meal without the veggies. DH was even able to get french dressing at HDDR, where the salad is predone and sitting right at the table when you get in.

Relax, take a deep breath..., you'll be fine.
