I was just reading about the Pick a Pearl that people do in Epcot and now I want to do this on our Disneyland vacation. Anyone know if there is a pick a pearl in downtown disney?

There is one - or at least, there was one last time we went. The cart is by the Downtown Disney monorail station.

Thanks! we'll be sure to get one. Pearl is DD's birthstone.

I saw it just last month. Close to the DLH, right at the beginning of DTD on the left. It looks like fun for a young girl, hope you decide to do it - good luck! :yay:

Ooooh Thank You! For the last few years we have been doing the pick a pearl at Epcot with our 2 DDs. I am saving the pearls, to make a ring, necklace, something for them as they get older. Possibly for their communions.

I will make sure to stop there in two weeks! :thumbsup2

Make sure you have them drill the pearls when you pick them even though you aren't going to have them mounted then. I read on the other thread (in the WDW forum) that one person can't get her blue pearl drilled because the pearl gets brittle and they're afraid of cracking it (she had picked it a couple of years prior I believe).

I thought I saw them being sold in a can too. You can take it home as a souveneir, shell and all!

They do it at Downtown Disney and I'm sure they do it at Universal Hollywood as well (though I may be wrong on this one) but definite in DD.
Love Ella

From what I've read (and you would think I would know being that I am sure we have this in Hawaii but getting it from Disney would make it so much more special for me) there is a tank or a bowl or something with water and oysters in it. you pay for an oyster and pick one oyster in the tank/bowl. They open your oyster right there and show you your pearl (I think in Epcot they do a lot more than just open it and measure by making it into a more exciting thing). Then you have an option to have it mounted on a pendant or ring or earrings (if you get twins) for an extra fee.

We bought some of these in Hawaii and brought them home. These pearls were horrible. It is the same company too - The Pearl Factory. The pearls you pick and they open are nice though.

Have fun. We love this in Hawaii -never tried it at DL but like everyone said they are always there in DD .

This sounds kind of cool, are there pearls in every oyster and anyone know the cost of picking plus the cost of mounting on a pendant?

That is quite contradicting. What pearls are horrible?

If I remember correctly the EPCOT posts listed the pearls at about 13-15 and the mounting depends on what you mount it on (silver or gold) and how fancy. Do a search for epcot pick a pearl and one diser even posted pics of her ring, unmounted pearl, and I think a pendant and one earring (she lost one side).
