Piano Lessons

I am also outside of Philadelphia. Our teacher comes to the house once per week to teach my two girls. We pay $20 per half hour lesson. We just give her cash each time she comes. She's never asked us to pay when either she can't come or we miss lessons due to illness or vacation. We buy the books, but the teacher will occasionally bring a photocopy of a special song she or my kids are interested in. We think this is a great service and a great deal and hope to continue for many years. I think she teaches some children in her own house at a lower cost.

Good luck with your business.

We pay $25 per half hour for dd to go to the teacher's home. We pay by check at the first lesson of the month for all the lessons of that month. At the beginning of the month we confirm how many lessons there will be (in case she or we need to be off a week.) I've never had to cancel on extremely short notice, don't know if I'd be charged or not but I'd understand if I was.

She gets the books (I think she gets them in bulk) and we just pay her as new ones come in, usually about $5 each. I just give her cash the lesson a new book comes in.

DDs teacher started students at age 5. I think younger kids can be challenging but if the teacher enjoys and is skillful with working with them and making it fun it can be great.

My daughter's piano teacher charges $10 for an half-hour and she only has 10 students -- no more.

I teach piano lessons through a community music school in New Jersey. I have 27 students. The pros through this type of teaching is that I give the school times I'd like to teach, they provide the space, set up my schedule, handle the billing, and I could purchase health benefits if I wanted. Cons are that the students pay about 30% more per hour than I make.

However, I don't know how feasible that would be if you'd need to find someone to babysit. But at least it's an idea for you:)

You may also want to consider joining an organization like MTNA (Music Teacher's National Association).

Oh, where I teach, they won't let students begin lessons until the age of 6, unless it is for Suzuki or Kindermusik.

HTH and if you have any questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them:)

My 11 year old DD has been taking lessons for a year now. I pay $16 per lesson in a friends home. We pay by the month according to the school calender. If any lessons are missed we can make arrangements for a make up class. Lessons are also offered over the summer at the same rate. My daughter just loves it and is doing so well. Started out on a keyboard and have just moved up to a used piano which is just awesome!
It's been interesting reading what others pay for lessons!

We pay 10.00 per half hour lesson. We go once a week and pay at the first lesson of each month. we also have to buy our own books. We use "Alfreds" books and the set is about 25.00 for each level. (We go through about 3 levels a year.) The instruction is 1 on 1 in the teachers home. Our lesson for my 9 year old is at 6am! before the teachers other children wake up. There are 2 recitals a year held in a large room at a local music store.

Here in Colorado we pay $15 for a half hour lesson. I send a check each week with DS when he goes. It is right down the street so he can walk. He has done amazingly well. We pay for the books, but being a band teacher I get a discount at the local music store. Good luck!!!!!!! BTW $15-$30 seems to be the going rate for any private instrumental lesson in this area.
