Thanks tlynk for your comments on my pictures.
You asked if I enjoyed staying more at BCV or the Fort Wilderness Cabins. Well, I enjoy both so much that it is hard to pick a favorite. I have stayed at the FtW Cabins on two trips, and I absolutely love it. The campground is very quiet and peaceful and filled with beautiful trees. The cabin itself is very nice, and also clean. It is nice to have a separate bedroom, a total of four beds (one bed comes out of the wall in the living room), and a full kitchen with stove and full-sized fridge. You asked if I felt like I was in a Disney Resort when I was there, and yes I did feel like that. I have been in love with Disney World since I first went with my parents in 1979, and I have stayed in 7 different Disney Resorts since my first on-site visit in 1997, and it felt very "Disney" to be staying in Fort Wilderness. I was very happy staying in Fort Wilderness. The ferry boat/launch from the Ft Wilderness Marina was a convenient and enjoyable way to get to the Magic Kingdom. And my family always enjoys the "campfire program" in the evenings at Fort Wilderness. I love the Fort Wilderness cabins! (another plus is that the Ft W cabins only cost $239 a night during value season - and 15% lower than that if you book the
AAA rate - and you'll never get a place with a full kitchen and separate bedroom anywhere near that cheaply anywhere else inside Disney World). I must say that the electric cart we rented on both stays at Ft W was wonderful. It wouldn't have been as nice to have had to use the internal Ft W bus, but that is partly because our kids are very little and a stroller is involved, so if you have teenagers you don't have a stroller, so unloading it and folding it up to get on the bus would not be an issue for you.
As to whether I liked the FtW cabins more than the Beach Club Villas, it's hard to say, as I also love the Beach Club Villas. It was nice to be able to walk to Epcot from the BCV. Stormalong Bay is the best hotel pool in Disney World, so if you have teenagers, that is a plus. The main swimming pool in Fort Wilderness is not as interesting and has no slide, though the Fort Wilderness main pool is very big.
Dining options near the BCV are light-years ahead of Fort Wilderness. I like the breakfast at the Fort Wilderness Restaurant, "Trail's End", but I don't like their dinner buffet. And of course the BCV have all of the Epcot and Boardwalk and Yacht and Beach Club and Swan and Dolphin restaurants within walking distance.
I think it really depends on your teenage children, maybe ask them. They might really enjoy the cabin. But if they like the idea of an awesome pool and being within walking distance of Mission:Space and Soarin' Over California, the Beach Club might be better for them.
I think teens would enjoy Ft Wilderness over the AKL. I don't think I will ever stay at the AKL due to other resorts I like so much better. As for teens and Ft.Wilderness vs. Wilderness Lodge...that is another hard one. Both places have wonderful atmosphere. The Wilderness Lodge pool is not large and gets very crowed from lunch time til late, though it does have a slide. I have stayed both in the Wilderness Lodge and the Wilderness Lodge Villas, and I really enjoyed both. One drawback for Fort Wilderness is that if you don't have an electric cart and if you are not close to one of the two pools, it would be a long walk or short bus ride to the one of the pools.
You didn't ask about Port Orleans Riverside (which I still call Dixie Landings), but it is also one of my favorite resorts (as you may have noticed, I have many favorite Disney resort hotels). In my opinion, POR is the most beautifully landscaped hotel in Disney World, including the deluxe hotels. POR has a good pool, a great foodcourt, and lots of walkways for early morning or evening strolls. POR gets top marks from me, and it is available for so much less than the deluxe resorts. So, so much less. I think of Dixie Landings/POR as a miracle gift from Disney to its guests, as the hotel is so beautiful and enjoyable, and yet so cheap.
I may not have been much help, as I seem to like so many Disney hotels and the cabins nearly equally, which may not help you decide.
