I'm going to Fort Wilderness for my first time next week and I'm very excited - two of my favorite things - Disney and camping - at the same time! But I'm curious to see what the camping area will look like.

I see a lot of great photos of regular campsites. I'm staying at Creekside Meadows. Does anyone have any photos, or a link? I'd like to see what's around, like the creek, the comfort station, the bus stop, etc., from Creekside Meadows.

Thanks,
Phredd

There is a Sticky at the beginning of this Forum that you can download thru Google Earth that has overlay's of FW and it shows a nice satelite view of FW. You can see a pretty good view of the Meadow. Are going with a large group, its usually reserved for 20 or more..

Hi Becky, thanks for the link. I tried getting a good view using Google maps, too, but all I see are the tree tops. I was kind of hoping for some on the ground photos from within the campsite, looking around and out, showing the facilities, the bridge, the creek, ...

Here's all I see from Google Earth: (I think I labeled the location of Creekside Meadows)

I just came back from there. There is a cub scout group leaving, when they're gone I'll get some pics and post them.

Thanks, Denise! That would be awesome! Are you camping right near the cub scouts? I'll appreciate any shots you take, but if it's not too much trouble, maybe stand in the middle and shoot around so it would be kind of like a panorama.

I'm getting very excited. Only four more days and I'll be at Disney World! Camping! I'm trying to convince my daughter to try camping someday and I figure Disney's the place to try it.

The group area is 1 large area divided into 6 areas. Green, white, red, blue, orange and yellow. There are 4 stake markers painted each color to show you the 4 corners of each area. Each area has picnic tables, 3 large 2 sided grills and a fire kettle. There is one volley ball and tether ball area for all areas. There is 1 comfort station for all areas. There is also a bus stop. There are 5 commode stalls and 4 shower stalls and 6 or so sinks in the ladies room. There is an ice machine and what I assume a dish washing station. It is surrounded on 2 sides by a canal. To save Frank some typing "bring your poles".

Phredd,

You will love staying at Creekside Meadows. I have fond memories of my camping here with the Scouts back in 80 or 81. (It was built around 78 or so).

At the very back of the campground is a small footbridge over a ditch that will connect you to the 900 loop which empties out to the main road directly across from the Meadow Trading Post, Pool, and Campfire/singalong area. It is only a few minutes walk as opposed to following the sidewalks/roads or waiting for a bus.

Have a great trip.

Those pics are great! Thanks. Looks like a really nice campsite. And the cub scouts left it pretty clean. Yeah scouts! Like I said, I'd have been happy with any pics, but such details ... even the toilet. LOL

Can't wait!

I'm sure I will. I wish we had the opportunity to camp there when I was a scout. And thanks for the tip on the shortcut!

WOW that is nice. I never knew about this. My girls are in a Daisy troop now but this would be a good idea for maybe next yr. Although unfortunately our leaders are not camping friendly people. Maybe I can convince them to do this. They could always stay at one of the resorts while me and the girls tent camp. And then join us in the AM. :thumbsup2

OH MY GOSH !! Not camping friendly ??? How can this possibly be ?? I'll bet they aren't fishing friendly either ,,the horror !!:scared1:

Seriously,,I may be wrong here, but when I was in the scouts it was all about the "character" of the scout. And a HUGE part of scouting was CAMPING, which builds character, responsibility, reliability, survival skills, communication & working together skills, helps to build trust not to mention FUN and much more !!! You can't get all that selling cookies in front of WAL-MART !!!

Sounds like they need new scout leaders to me.

Hope I wasn't too rough,,but I am right. :rolleyes1

(can I have a cookie :goodvibes)

Would you say that the comfort stations at Ft. Wilderness are generally clean and in good repair? We will have eight people in our trailer, and I think we will probably use the comfort stations more this trip than if it were just our immediate family.

Thanks.

oh I agree. I grew up being a girl scout and I loved the camping. We had fun stations we had to go to that taught us all kinds of things. From survival skills to crafts and everything in between. And the friends we made while camping wow. I will never forget those days. Seriously they are more like the deluxe resort girls. I dont think they would go fishing either. :scared1: That is scary. But dont worry I wont let that happen to my girls and I know my DH wont either. He loves fishing. I tell him about your post and he will be so happy to go fishing at the Fort I know it. Right now all he has is the canal that is in front of our house across the street. It is nice too that way if I need him I just walk outside and yell. :)
