The last time we went to Disney World, photopass was different then how it is today. You would get your picture taken by a photographer, go to the photo center in Disney World at the end of the day and pick which pictures you wanted to purchase. Of course, you could add borders, signatures, etc. at this time. Then when you arrived at home, you could log on to photopass web site and purchase additional pictures that were sent to you by mail. This week I came to the Disboard site and found out that Photopass now has a cd for $99 with a capacity of 300 pictures. Can someone please be more detailed. For example, when I visit the parks the first day, being Magic Kingdom and have our picture taken in front of the castle, will this be when I get my first photopass card? Then what?? :confused3

I would greatly appreciate everyone's help and suggestions.

Disney World trip: August 12-19 :wizard:

Hi There,

The new photopass program is wonderful. When you get your first picture taken, such as in front of the castle, you will get a photopass card. From that point on, when a Disney photographer takes your picture in the parks, hand them your card and they will add pictures to that card. If you forget your card one day, you can get another one and combine them on one CD, from what the CM told me when I purchased my CD, the only limit is 300 pics. When we go in Oct. we're going with several family members and I'm sure each family is going to have their own card. At the end of the trip, we're going to combine cards and get one CD to share.

Hope that answers all of your questions. :cheer2:

That's right, but they don't put the photos on the card, they just scan the card, has your account # and they upload them with all of your pictures on that account #. If you loose your card, it is hard, but possible to retreive your pics. (I've heard.) Would it work to write down all of your card #'s when you get them, just in case it get's lost?

Let me see if this is how it works... At the end of my trip, I will go to Photo Center located at any of the Disney World parks and at this point all of my pictures from my photopass cards will be uploaded to a cd for $99? Is this correct? There is no pre-purchase involved? Do they still add signatures and extras on the cd or only on the pictures you buy there at the park?

Thanks for your patience. :grouphug:

Ok...this is all new to me.....so, if I purchase the CD, I can print out my pictures at home, or upload them to an online printing service, and they are not copyrighted???? :confused3

It's basically the same PhotoPass system you remember, with just a few changes. There's no obligation to buy anything when you get the PhotoPass card or have photos taken.

When the program was very new, you could only view the photos at the park where they were taken. Now, you can view all photos on your account.

You can add borders, characters, and signatures to the photos you're paying to print. However, those items won't be on your CD.

The CD comes with a copyright release, allowing you to use your CD however you like. You can use Photoshop or other software to edit your photos, print them yourself, or take them to a camera store to have them printed.

You can still view and purchase pictures on the PhotoPass web site after you get home. Accounts stay active online 30 days after your last photo is taken, or 30 days after you "claim" your photos online. (Whichever is later.)

You can also purchase the CD from home. There's also a DVD you can create online, which allows you to combine pictures you upload with PhotoPass pictures into a video scrapbook.

If you have a Disney Visa card, there's a private character meet and greet at Epcot you can get into by showing your card. The photographers will take many pictures on your PhotoPass, and give you a coupon to get a free printed photo.

If you're a DVC member, there was a discount on the PhotoPass CD if you bought it in the park. (Didn't apply to internet purchases.) The member site write-up on this perk says it was through 6/30/06. I haven't heard any feedback if they're still honoring it, though.

you will be given a disclaimer (waiver ) when you purchase the cd of the $99.00. You can print the pictures at home or at any of your local photo stores, walmart, walgreens, where ever you have your photos printed.

I purchased the cd the last week of June, had 230 pictures on it, and use the cd files however I want. Its a great deal.

from what i understand from reading previous threads is that the reason the cd is so expensive is because you are paying for the rights to the cd so you can pring them wherever.

also, you can no longer add borders or signitures or anything like that on them. they are strictly pictures. There was a rumor going around that disney is trying to have ride photos added to the photopass system, but nothing has been set in stone yet.

I'm still debating on wether or not i want to spend 99 bucks when i can just ask other people if they would be so kind! :goodvibes

I am thinking about getting the CD when we go back...when we went in May I did not purchase the CD, I just took my PhotoPass card home and ordered pictures from it on my computer. The pictures are expensive to buy AND, like someone already posted, they account expires after 30 days so if you discover that you need another copy of some of those pics, you are out of luck. With the CD, you own the pictures so they never expire and you can get prints MUCH cheaper than what Disney charges for them.

And can i just say that I really hope they add Ride Pics to the Photopass soon...I've been saying that since they first started the new photopass program!!! Here's Hoping! :thumbsup2

So, say you don't want the cd ( I have not yet decided if we will get it). Can you just order pictures you want? Secondly, I know in the past you couldn't do this but what about pictures on rides? Can these be added to your photopass?

so far ride photos are NOT allowed on photopass, but they are rumored to be talking about allowing it, so you just have to check on it when you are there....

and you can order single pictures off your photopass, but be prepared to pay big bucks for them... if you are going to use it at all i would splurge for the whole 99 cd.... and you can print WHATEVER you want at your local photo printing store...

Yes, I am a Disney Visa cardholder, just wondering where in Epcot is the Meet and Greet and of course which characters are there?

The cd sounds like a great option if you take into consideration that every picture is $12.95 or so. At this rate we would only be able to purchase 7 pictures. Thanks to everyone for your help! :grouphug:

In the Magic Your Way packaged that I bought there is the photopass as a benefit, but I think it's only for 1 picture. What happens here with the CD? You get your free pic and the CD you buy it at its normal cost?

Exactly. You get one free photo printed and then if you have enough photos taken to want to buy the CD, then you can buy the CD for $99

Its in Innovations West. After Spaceship Earth, you take a right.

Its inside, across from the fire truck.

The characters vary throughout the day but we've seen Minnie, Mickey, and Goofy.

Thanks "beattyfamily"... I usually take all of the pictures and go home with only a couple with me and my kids.

How many places are there that have someone taking photopass pix? I can't see how you could use 300 pix and not have ride pix, restaurant pix or anything.

Does anyone know if you can make copies of the CD at home? Thank you for your help
