Photopass question

So, this is probably a stupid question, but I've never done any type of photo anything before for a Disney trip. We've gone dozens of times, but we've just taken most of our own photos and occasionally bought pictures at a character meal. But, now we have the Gold Annual Pass and I think it includes Photopass downloads. What exactly does that benefit entail? I warned you - it's a stupid question.

You can have your photos taken by any photo pass photographer and they will be available for you to download. They also have things called magic shots where they can include a Disney character of some sort like Tinker Bell hovering over your shoulder or stitch coming out of the sidewalk, things like that. You also are able to add borders, ride names etc. to pictures prior to download. Also on rides the photos that are taken will be added to your account and available to download.

DH and I have used it so much since it's been added. At AK, the photographer added trolls rolling into the scene. Tink flies around us at Epcot, and a butterfly appears in our hands in one taken during F&G.

It's so nice having both of us in pictures, and I look forward to having pictures of all my friends together during our May trip!

Maybe this will help:

Disney World PhotoPass

It's a little out of date - in that it doesn't mention that many of the annual pass tickets include PhotoPass for no extra charge. I think it's a very nice perk of having an annual pass. :)

Also, you will see and be able to download the photos of anyone on your Friends and Family list in My Disney Experience, even if they are not staying in the room with you. One thing I don't know is when the ability to download Photo Pass photos expires. My gold pass expired on March 18 and people on these boards said that downloading privileges would end when the gold pass expired. But I am still able to download today, so I am thinking that maybe the downloading for gold pass might be 45 days after photos were taken even if the gold pass is expired.

We never used the Disney photographers because of the high prices. When we bought a gold pass we tried it and we liked it. We started looking for photographers everywhere we went. We found a photo pass photographer in the lobby of the Grand Floridian at Christmas and got some great pictures.

At the parks, it is a great way to get a photo in front of one of the iconic Disney landmarks, while having your whole party in the photo, and the photographer will even let you put your stuff down at their feet so it isn't in the photo.

It also is fast. Within a few minutes, you can view the photo on your Disney App. You can download the photos from the Disney app to your camera roll, and they are available for you to share on social media. The special photos where a Disney character is superimposed on top of the photo takes longer, but will typically show up on the app in a few hours.

Also, we had hundreds of pictures, partly because we swiped our band at the Belle attraction and there were pictures of all the children, and you can download them all from the Disney site with one click when you get home.

A picture of us that was taken March 15, 2016 says that it expires on March 15, 2017!

So, if I have a Gold Annual Pass, then will the photographers just scan my Magic Band and then we'll have access to the photos or do we need some type of card? I assume it'll all be through our Magic Band - but just want to make sure. We are taking an extended family trip in June with DH's family, 19 in all, and that would be great to have a picture of the entire group as well as my own family. Thanks for the info.

Your magic band will be enough! It is super easy!

Be sure you have all your DH's family members listed in your MDE account. Then any of them can have photos taken, have the photographer scan their magic band, and the photos will show up in your account. You do not need to be with them. They all can view the photos in MDE but you will be the only one who can download them. Then you can make CDs or transfer photos to a thumb drive so everyone has copies.

As others have posted, one of the biggest/best benefits is having everyone in the pictures. No one is missing because they have to take the picture. The pictures are loaded really fast to MDE and you can share them with others right away. The magic shots are awesome also.

We are staying at AKL-Kidani, any chance there would ever be a photographer there- it would be cool to have a family picture there.
