Ok, I tried to find the answer to this before posting my question, but couldn't find anything. I was looking into pre-purchasing the photo pass cd. How does this work exactly? Do they send me the photo pass in the mail, then after the trip I get the cd, do they mail the cd to me or do I get at WDW before we leave, it looks like I can take the cd and load pictures on my own computer or I can take them anywhere to be printed because i would be given the copyright. I am absolutely clueless, help!!

moving to the budget board. They seem to have the most information on the Photopass CD.

They send you an e-mail with instructions right after you order:

Get a Disney's PhotoPass card from the first Photographer you see.
Use the card every time you get a photo taken.
After your vacation, visit DisneyPhotoPass.com to claim your photos and make edits too!
Place a Disney's PhotoCD in your cart.
Go to your shopping cart and place your order. Your pre-purchase credit will be applied to your order.

I just finished editing my photopass CD (and it was a pre-order) so I should be able to answer your questions.

You start by creating an account on disneyphotopass.com. Once you have your account, you pay for your photopass CD (pre-order it before your trip). Make sure you order before your trip starts to get the discount. If you search this forum, you should be able to find a link for $99 pre-order specials.

Once you've pre-ordered the CD, go on your vacation. The photographers will all have photopass cards. You can use the same photopass for the entire trip. I always either jot down the number off the back of the code and leave it in my room and/or take a digital picture of the back of the card in case it gets lost. If you have the numbers, you will be able to claim the photos even if you've lost the physical card. You can have as many photopass cards as you want, so if you forget it in your room or split up, just get another one.

If you purchase any of the photos from character meals, there is a number that starts with EVNT stamped on the corner of the largest photo. You can enter that like a photopass card number and have those pictures included on the CD.

When you return from your trip, you log back into your photopass account and enter in the numbers of all of your photopass cards. You have 30 days from the time the first picture was taken to claim your pictures. If you wait too long to claim them, they may be deleted from their system.

Once you have entered your photopass card numbers, you have 30 days to edit your pictures and get your CD ordered. You can add borders, crop, rotate, change them to black and white, and a few other things I can't think of right now. Before you start editing a picture, make sure the button says "Save as Copy". That means you are editing the original photo. Once you edit the original photo, the copy will slide in right next to the original. As long as you don't delete it, the original photo will always be there unaltered and the edited pictures are just added in addition to the original. If the button just says Save, it means that you are working with an already edited picture and you will undo your previous edit and lose it if you save the new edit instead.... I hope that makes sense.

You can edit the same original photo as many times as you want. If you were inclined you could take one photo and edit it 100 different ways and end up with 101 pictures on your CD.

It is possible to upload your own photos onto their website to edit them using their borders. Unless you pay extra, those photos won't appear on your CD anyway, so unless you are planning to use them to order other photo products (mugs, ornaments, photobook, etc), I wouldn't bother.

Once you are done editing (make sure you are done within 30 days of when you first entered your photopass card numbers), you put the CD in your cart. Your cart will already have a discount of $149.99 (the regular price of the photopass CD) in there. If that is all you add, you will be charged about $2 shipping and that is all when you place the order.

You will receive a CD (or multiple CDs depending upon how many pictures you have). You will also get a photo release that allows you to print the photos at any picture printing place (walmart, walgreens, mail order, or whatever) or you can print them using your own computer and printer.

The CDs are not copy-protected in any way, so you can make a back up copy in case something happens to the original.

Hopefully that will get you started. People here know quite a bit about the Photopass, so you should be able to get most of your questions answered.

I'm not the OP - but THANKS for that details description of how it works! When you check out - do they charge tax on the $99.95? Just checking. Thanks!

I don't remember paying any tax when I prepaid for the CD. When I went to place my actual order, I did end up paying $3.95 for shipping charges though.

Here's a link to preorder if you need it:
