Photopass 101

i had a few pictures taken, got a photopass card, then when I went home I went to the website and ordered .........1.

yes, they still do this. I recently checked the rewards on the card. it starts 30 minutes after DCA opens and goes for 90 minutes in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot.

Thank you!

So OP, if you do have a Disney Visa, you can get a photo with a character at DCA as noted above (usually Chip and Dale or Pluto, I think) and then they let you get a print of ANY Photopass photo on your card. If they try to make you get a Pluto/Chip and Dale photo, you can ask for a manager, as they should allow you to get any photo printed.

Hi there - Hope you don't mind me threadjacking a little, we would be travelling from New Zealand, I assume that it's possible to have the photos sent overseas? If anyone has logged into their account lately and recalls any postage prices, I would be grateful to hear what t hey might be.

LOVE the pictures - I am already excited reading all the threads on this board and we are about 18 months away from the trip!

Yes, both photos and the CD can be sent overseas.

I bought 2 5x7 photos in 2007 and I think I paid around 8 dollars in postage. This was to Germany. Really not sure how much I paid for the Photopass CD last year, sorry. I can't log into my account from this computer.

I believe you can also buy photo dowloads now. That should negate the need for postage.....

Yes, they offer downloads now. But the cost is $ 14.95 per photo. So unless you only want 4 photos the postage is worth it. ;)

International postage is $ 10.95 for the CD by the way and $ 5.95 for prints.

Thanks for the replies - more info to keep in my planning folder... ;)

Just think about it before you get to the park. If there is a chance you might order the CD, then you will want to seek out as many photopass photogs as possible and get the most pictures possible. It's the same price if you have 10 or 1000 shots on it!

I am trying to get this straight because when we book a WDW trip, Disney will send an email about 45 days from your trip and in that email, down towards the bottom, is a link to the Photopass.com where you can prepurchase the cd for less than if you were to order it after you come home (a new perk for staying on site). I was just wondering if Disneyland does the same sort of deal....if $59.00 was the actual price or is that a discounted price for those who stay in one of the hotels on property. We are planning a trip to DL (first trip) and am trying to get the feel of how DL does things compared to WDW. Thanks for any input. And for the PP who said that $60 seemed like a lot for a cd, Disney's prepurchase photopass costs WDW guests $99.95 and if you purchase it after you come home it then costs $149.95. However, to us (especially my DH because he is Photopass obsessed) the money is well worth it because you get some really amazing pictures with the whole family in it.

And you're entitled to your opinion. I still think $60 is a lot to pay for a CD of some pictures. Doesn't matter what other parks charge.

Just my opinion. :)

I would never in a million years pay $150 for a CD of some pictures of my day at an amusement park. :rotfl2: But there are obviously people who will... so Disney has it priced right. :thumbsup2

I should have been more clear about that in my PhotoPass Info & Tips post earlier. The actual price is $59.95. Don't pre-order a CD for DLR, or else the CD price will be more money. Order the DLR CD after the DLR trip. It doesn't matter whether you stay onsite or offsite. It's $59.95 plus $2.00 for U.S. orders, and sometimes - as I stated earlier - there are special discounts offered by Facebook or whatever, so if you are not already a fan of PhotoPass on Facebook, you might want to do that. Of course, PhotoPass will also send out regular updates about discounts on their own website on Facebook, too, which is good in case you have pictures you are sitting on and have not purchased yet them. I had pictures in my account and was waiting to order them. Then I got the Facebook notice that told me PhotoPass was giving a $15 discount on the CD by a certain deadline, and I ordered it right away.

Yep, I think they priced it right.:thumbsup2 I think we all - seeing that this is a message board for extreme Disney/DLR fans - look at the photos from our cherished trips to DLR as treasured memories & souvenirs. If something goes wrong with our cameras or memory cards and we lose those golden shots, it is a huge relief to have PhotoPass as a back-up, and $60 for 500 photos or 2000 photos or even only 20 photos can seem like nothing if we are preserving our memories and helping to make nice gifts for people. Plus, as others have said, we can get our whole group in the photos, they are usually good quality pictures, and they have the special Disney effects that our personal cameras don't offer.

But PhotoPass is not necessarily a service that is for everyone, so it's good that you asked & learned about it, and you kind of know now that it is probably not for you. And you know that if you decide to do it on the spur of the moment, the card is free and the photo sessions are free, and you never have to buy anything - or you can buy just one picture if you choose.

Yoou will certainly have a wonderful time, with or without PhotoPass!:goodvibes:thumbsup2

I agree! :thumbsup2

And I try to look at it this way.... with the CD I can order as many pics as I want through Snapfish or another online photo site and have them printed for $.09 each, as opposed to paying $15 each (or whatever they are now) to have Disney print me up one at the park. :thumbsup2 If you would want more than three photos printed at the park, then it would be silly to not buy the CD and have the rights to all of the photos.

I'm still on the fence about it. We may or may not go that route. My reason for starting to thread was to find out more information on it since it wasn't available when I went to Disneyland as a child.

My point was that it was a matter of opinion that $60 is expensive to pay for a CD of photos. A fact that is less than 1/2 of what another park sells it for, but an opinion that it is expensive.

I get it. You have no problem spending $60 on pictures. Understood. :thumbsup2

Why has this thread turned into a debate as to whether or not $60 is expensive or not?

If anybody else has anything to add about my original questions, I'd appreciate it. But this is really getting off topic quickly.

I am not debating you. I don't think anyone else here is debating you. I think you might be reading what we are all saying the wrong way. We are all being helpful - in fact, it took me a long time to put together that first Info and Tips post for you to give you all the info you would need. I don't shell out $60 easily for anything. If I can get a discount on the CD, I will take it (and the PhotoPass option was not around when I was going to DL as a child, either). Of course, anyone is entitled to think it is expensive. No one is debating your right to think it is expensive. I was trying to explain why I think other folks find it worth the $$$ - that doesn't mean you have to find it worth the money.

Again....if anybody else has anything to add about my original questions, I'd appreciate if my thread could get back on track.

Thanks! :)

Well we have a photopass card because they handed one to us at a character greet, so we tried to stop whenever we noticed a photographer. But we ended up with only 26 photos, none that impressive so it's not worth the 60 bucks to us. If we had closer to 60 pictures, if they were better (i.e. kids actually looking in the right direction), etc, etc, I'd consider it in the future.

PineapplePrincessCA has asked me to close or delete this thread. Per her request, I am going to lock it but still leave it visible, because I think everyone who contributed to it gave very valuable information on PhotoPass and how it works, and it may be helpful to someone else. Pretty much anything you would need to know about PhotoPass is in this thread, so someone will benefit from it. Thanks to all who posted and helped out!:goodvibes
