Anyone have any photography tips for a SeaWorld trip? I might be taking my folks for the day on my trip to Florida this weekend and I haven't been in years. I can't remember enough to plan ahead. :goodvibes

thanks in advance,

It's been a while since I've been to the park in Orlando, but we have SW season tickets to the park in San Antonio.

Number 1 Tip : BEWARE THE SPLASH ZONES! Salt water and cameras don't do well together.

If you use an SLR, a Circular Polarizer will reduce/eliminate glare on the glass around the tanks so that you can get better shots of the animals as they swim by.

Higher shutter speeds are a necessarty if taking photos of animals jumping out of the water.

When zooming in on orcas, I have notice that the black/white coloring can befuddle some auto exposure settings (which in most cameras balance everything to grey). If you have a manual exposure option, use a wideshot on Auto-exposure, the switch to manual and keep the same settings.

After the show is a good time to go down and get close up photos of Shamu and the trainers.

are you looking for camera tips or good shooting spot ideas?

I don't know if this helps, but here is one of my favorite shots from Sea World.

Here are my Sea World Photos & More Pics (some of these might be duplicates, I had made a folder for my nephew's visit)

I have not had a really good day at SW since I got my S2, I forgot it one day, and my sister's camera did not have good zoom, so I have not taken too many Shamu show pics recently.

One think I do find helpful during the Shamu Show (I have not seen the new show - it was still in reheresals when were were there in April - but I am assuming it might still be the same) is to watch the giant screen to know when the dramatic jumps, etc. are going to happen. We were there for one show while were rebuilding the stage area and the giant screen was gone. I found it very difficult to time those dramatic photos. Zoom is definitely needed for the shows - if you are close enough to the Shamu show - you are then in the Splash Zone!

I love to photograph the sea lions - they are so expressive.

If you are patient you can sometimes get good photos of mother and baby dolphins in the nursery. You can also photograph them at the feeding area, but again it's sometimes the luck of the shutter what you get! Too bad they won't "pose" for us!

Blue Horizions is very colorful. We were pretty far up the last time we were there, but with zoom, I think I got some decent photos - again, you don't always now where the best "action" is going to be.

It is very cool to go up in the Sky Tower and see the park and the Orlando area from way up high! It rotates on the way up and down.
Near closing they have a water show near the waterfront - music, fountains and lights. I have not seen the fireworks as of yet. They are normally really late at SW and we never make it that long!
