I don't know how to post photos but this is a unique idea for a present. Let's say your last name is Smith. You would go around your county and take photos of things that have the shape of each letter. Like maybe a tree branch that looks like an M. Edit to add, I found this link for an example, scroll down on the page and you'll see an E - http://www.43things.com/things/view...ngs-with-letters-on-them-to-spell-out-my-name Put the photos in 3x5 clear frames and then glue the frames on a really nice shaped piece of wood. It looks really cool, wish you could see an example. We are going to get the whole family out and go searching for the letters!

A lady I know does this as a business. This is just my two cents for anyone who plans on doing this, but she almost always uses shaped objects to represent the letters instead of actual letters like some of those examples. IMHO, the ones that just used cut-out letters look like what you imagine a ransom note would.

I have been doing this for about a year. There are still letters I have not found. Some letters are easier than others. I have posted two that I have found below (the letters M and K). Have fun searching!!

I totally agree, only use shaped objects it looks much better! Like the E in the link.

Other poster, I love the "k" that you found on the playground :)

I guess this Christmas is out for my gift giving this idea because it will take awhile to find my letters.

We've done this! Last year DH and I went to Disneyland (he was in Anaheim for work), and I spent my days looking around the parks for letters that make up our children's names. The most fun one for our DS was the B that begins his name... It was the trashcan in Downtown Disney with the big Disney Ds overlapping. He's 3, and got a kick out of it. Our DD who is 5 loved her E in her name that was found with the railings in Splash Mountain. Once they figured out where we had been, they enjoyed trying to figure out which attraction a letter came from. If I were on our computer, I'd attach some pics. I'll try to add them later! Good luck! :)

Thanks for the cool idea! I love to look for things like that...and DH has a great camera. Maybe we can work together and come up with something interesting. :thumbsup2

I've seen this advertised in a magazine and they got a lot of money for it, but what they did was use letters and numbers from street, house & business signs. They would use numbers and letters from different signs but that had the same basic style - Say a D from a McDonalds Sign and an U from a Burger King sign - though from classier signs for more upscale companies and houses. The company that made the photo collages was based out of Savannah (sorry I don't remember their name) and they looked amazing.
