Photography Books for Beginners

I posted this on another thread, but I just got a Canon Rebel T2i this past weekend. I've been reading the manual but I don't feel like I'm really getting anywhere in understanding how to get the best shots out of the camera. I'm looking into getting the book, "Canon EOS Rebel T2i/550D For Dummies." Would you guys recommend that as a starting place? Any others?

Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson was the first photography book I read. It was very helpful.

There are two area you will need to increase your understanding. One is the technical aspects of your particular camera. This is where the manual comes in handy. I found the manual that came with the camera lacking and purchase a book from amazon for my camera that was easier to understand.

Then you have the artistic side to learn. That is where Understanding Exposure comes in. I also have read Bryan Peterson's Understanding Shutter speed. He has other books also. I have several books I have read that have helped me understand better composition. Amazon comes in handy for browsing and purchasing.

When I got my DSLR, the seller threw in the Magic Lantern Book for my camera. I found it easier to understand than the manual. After reading and using that book, I was then able to better understand the manual. I have attached the Amazon website for the book pertaining to your camera.

Understanding Exposure was very good for understanding the concepts of photography but not for an individual camera. I have read and re-read my manual, the Magic Lantern book and Understanding Exposure.

While books are a great place to start you may want to look into some online training sites. Two sites I can think of off the top of my head are lynda.com or kelbytraining.com. They cost about $25 a month, and are primarily for software training, but have adds a number of photography training courses. Also, check out the sites, for possible xx-day trials or do a google search for deals.
