Photographer Request

If you requested a photographer for your wedding, how early did you do it? Did you get your request?

There is only one photographer from the website I would let do my wedding. Photography is stressing me out. I've thought about canceling my dream wedding because I can't pick a photographer just request one, and hope that I get her.

My dad thinks I'm over reacting as does a friend. My fiance understands that this is the most important element of the wedding to me. I would give up a lot to have the photographer of my choice.

Sorry, I sure I'm just over reacting, but I don't want to give up my dream, because of 1 element that I can't seem to control.

I can't be of too much help, since I haven't done this yet, but I can offer some advice.

Why not go through other brides disney photographers, and maybe you will find more that you like. If you give of list of say 3, you are probably likely to get one

Mike Strickland is one of the Disney photographers and is the one my daughter had for her wedding. I am sure that some of his work is on the disney photography website, but if you would like to see more of his work you can ask them to post some of them in an email, that is why they did for us. He is excellent and the pictures came out beautiful!!! and he was great to work with. We actually requested him after her planner had mentioned him and he was available for her date.

I've looked at Mike's work and it's nice, but not the style that I invision for my wedding. How early did you put in the request for him?

I sadly, go threw the website hoping to someday find more photographers added, or maybe I'd find a photographer I could also like a lot or settle for.

There is 1 other photographer I've considered, but I've only seen 1 engagement shoot that he's done, and while I liked it. He's not on the website, and I haven't seen a wedding that he's done. So, I'm not comfortable putting him on a request list.

I could not find one for Joe Duncan, and Mike Strickland has an empty blog at the moment. Hope that helps some! I am sure there are more photographers, but I do not know their last names. Maybe if some brides could post them, we can hunt down more sites for you.

Edit: Removed Amy's info as it is the wrong one. Which is weird... I googled "Amy Alexander + Orlando" and "Amy Alexander + Disney" and the same site was listed as the first match on each result page. Weird.

Thank You. I didn't even think to look to see if they had their own sites. It did make me fully decide there is no one other then Amy I would let do my wedding at DPS. I had put Ty on my short list, and after looking at each of their websites. I now feel very comfortable with Amy.

I think I'm going to have to set up a phone conversation with Pam, my consultant, and maybe DPS to express my concerns and what my dad decided this evening. I just may have to cancel the idea of a Disney wedding, and that would break my heart, but I can't leave photography up to chance.

I suppose because I have booked an outside photographer I had not really given much thought to the Disney one as from reading on here they didnt really seem to be very good. So does Disney give you a list of their photographers or do we just have to find out from other disbrides on here ?
After looking at some of their websites I have to say the Disney ones look pretty good (especially Amy) !!

It's not stupid at all. Disney doesn't advertise that you can request one. It was the first question I asked when I first got in touch with my consultant.

You have to look at the website and photos that brides have posted here.

I'm the same way when it comes to photography - its VERY important to me! So I understand where you're coming from about not being able to book the one photographer you want. Especially since you're paying tons of money for them! I too like Amy's photography and from what I've read on the boards, she's amazing.

I might have missed it, but how early did everyone book their photographers?

I was the same way. We got married before things changed and we were able to book Randy, so I didn't worry about the wedding day. But we did a MK shoot and I stressed till the morning about who we get. I got my request and I put my request in as soon as I knew who I like. I also confirmed a few weeks before that they had noted who I wanted.

Its not crazy to stress over photographers. Because when its all over and done with, what you are left with are your memories and the photos. Photography is an art and everyone is different. You want what you want and Disney makes it stressful in the fact you can't pick who you want. So don't let anyone tell you that you shouldn't stress so much over it. It is important, just don't let it get you down.

Sorry about that! Fixed the previous post. It's weird though, I Googled "Amy Alexander + Disney" and "Amy Alexander + Orlando" and that result kept popping up. Maybe that one likes traveling there.

I know, right? It's funny they have the exact same name.

Hi, I am having my wedding at Sea Breeze Point in sept. I have looked at alot of the photographs/photographers and I am too nervous to let it fall to the luck of the draw. I hired an outside photographer, that way I KNEW the quality of the the work that they do. I am using Stephanie Owens, www.stephowens.com, she is in Jacksonville but travels. She is SOOOO AMAZING. I was lucky to get her, she stays pretty busy. She is coming up the day before so that we can do some more casual pictures and then she is shooting the entire day of the wedding. Check out her website..see what you think. She is EXCELLENT working with brides, very unintrusive..Everyone that I have spoken with can't say enough good things about her. DON'T cancel your beautiful wedding..between using an outside photographer (if you decide to) and the disney photographers you will have soooo many beautiful memories...Congratulations!!!

Our ceremony is being held in Epcot so I have to use DPS. If I could book an outside photographer I would in a second. In fact, I would have already had them booked.
I'm working with DPS to sort threw some of my concerns and I'm waiting to hear back from then. I'm also doing my best to pick my "battles" with them, but there are just several red flags and I'm now just going one at a time.

You may want to double check..I was told that as long as the photographer has a ticket then you can use an outside photograpehr..you may want to ask.. This is something that you DO NOT want any surprises with...good luck.

I was told that Disney is not allowing any outside photographers to do weddings inside of the parks anymore. We are doing a Wishes wedding, so I'm not sure if they've changed anything, but will all my talks with my sales manager and DPS recently I'm sure someone would have told me if this changed.

We have additional photographers that are second shooters (aka assistants) on weddings, however these are our lead photographers.
Also, David and Vicki are no longer with our department, so they would not be available for any future weddings booked through Disney Fine Art Photography & Video."
