Hey all,
Currently have a Nikon D70 with a lens designed for use with nikon slr film camera. I want to be able to take some nice photos of cinderella's castle and hogwarts castle at night. Any suggestions on what settings and or additional flashes people may used to get a really great pic?

Flashes also won't be necessary.

Agreed - the best looking night shots you are going to get with your camera, and any lens, is going to involve the lowest ISO setting, a tripod, using self-timer or remote release cable to take the pic, and using a long shutter exposure to capture all the nice light and color. What lens you use will impact where you need to set up and how you compose the shots.

I usually use the Program mode (P) and set the exposure compensation to -1 or so. Evaluative metering usually works well for these kinds of scenes. Bracket your exposures to improve the chances of getting one you like and you can even use the images for HDR later.

As others have mentioned, some sort of camera support will probably be necessary.

I have 2 different lenses and not know how the park is set up to know where to shoot from.... I have an Nkion AF nikkor 28-80 1:3.3-5.6G and a AF Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4-5.6D. Thanks for all the help so far. I am fairly new to learning about night time shots.

I think you will find you will be using your 28-80 most of the time. At WDW wider is better. On my last trip, I used my 28-70 f2.8 the majority of the time. The only time I needed any longer reach was on the AK Safari Ride and the shows when I couldn't get close. For those I used my 70-200 f2.8 or the DW used her 50-200. With your lenses, it will be difficult to get low light action shots. For fireworks, go as wide as you can. On my next trip, the goal is to have an UWA and the Sigma 30 f 1.4 for the dark rides.

At the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the 28-80 will also be of more use. There is plenty of room to move around and get various shots of Hogwarts. And everything else in that area is in pretty close quarters; so you wouldn't need much zoom. You'll probably even feel the need to want to go wider than the 28. But you'll be fine with that lens.
