Did you shoot in raw? If so, it's an easy fix.

It was just shot on my iPhone 6 I tried different brightness settings and auto correct and they don't seem to work we. How do you suggest I fix it?

That's tough. Playing around with the apps I like on my iPhone, I can do an awesome job on the underexposed carpet, but the faces remain very washed out. I'm wondering if that is a lens reflection issue (that's why DSLr users put those big, "jagged" lens hoods in front of their cameras) and not just general exposure.

Unfortunately I think that's a picture that needed the flash to stand a chance :(

It's a simple backlighting issue. But not much can be done to repair an iPhone jpeg. Brightening will just brighten the whole image, not necessarily bring detail out of shadow.

With raw files, you can bring amazing detail out of the shadows but not likely this iphone image. With a raw file, the file contains information that you don't see (the details in the shadows). The iphone jpeg... the file is what you see. It's like a painting... nothing much extra.

Havoc is correct - with a RAW file you could have truly saved the image.

I decided to take a stab at it nevertheless.
