I need a new photo printer. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks

I recently bought a canon pixma and I LOVE IT! It prints out photos nearly as nice as those you would have done professionally.

The Epson 9800 is incredible, but it's rather pricey.

I like Canon ink jets because they produced similar quality to the Epsons at much higher speeds. I also find them a little cheaper to run. On the other hand, I'm very disappointed in how Canon is handling ink cartridge problems with the iPF5000. I wouldn't even think about buying one.

I've heard good things about the HP Z3100 as well, especially for B&W printing.

What size prints do you want to make? Color, B&W, or both? For use as a text printer as well, or just for photos? How much do you want to spend? Have you considered just getting your printing done online or at a local store?

I also thought the same thing. Unless the turnaround time or desire to have more control are issues, then I feel that a print shop is a better solution. Even Walmart does decent prints and can have them ready for pickup in an hour. I have heard many people say that Costco is nice and cheap, but our local one is too far from me. Some places have pre-paid prices that are even lower like around ~$0.12 per 4x6.

I only print 4x6 when it's something really tricky, I need really fast, or I'm testing stuff. Even owning the printer already, it's cheaper (considering paper and ink costs) to print at the local store. It's also easier if you are printing a lot of copies.

Here's another vote for the Canon Pixma printers (I think I have the 6000). I mostly use it when I'm "experimenting" with my photos in Photoshop Elements. When I have a ton of pictures to print, like after a vacation, I download to a CD and take it to Target or Eckerd, depending on who's got a sale going on at the time.

Of course, I still have a TON of pictures that are on my computer and have never been printed. :) I still can't decide if that's a good or bad thing... On the one hand, I'm not spending the money to print so/so pictures, but on the other hand, there ARE some pretty nice shots that should be printed and put in an album somewhere. What to do? :confused3

I have an HP Photosmart 4X6 photo printer. I generally upload my pictures for printing at an outside source, but for printing a picture or two at home it comes in very handy. I bought it originally because a friend of mine had one and the quality seemed good. I'm happy with it.

I have an Epson Picturemate for my 4X6 and an Epson R3400 for my 8.5X11. My next one will be another Espon, but one that does larger prints. I have owned Epsons since I started printing and I love them.

I agree with MArk And Kevin, although I have an HP 7550 photo printer that does a wonderful job, I send all my serious stuff to MPIX, and the not so serious to my new Walmart, I sent a test batch to them a few weeks ago after they opened and was pleasantly surprised with the quality, I pretty much only use my 7550 when I'm working on a picture and want to see how my edits will look in final print, or when my 2 young nieces are over I usually print a few pics for them...

I have the Kodak 500 4x6 printer and the photos look great. I don't print tons of photos, only the ones for my scrapbook, so I rarely print larger than 4x6. It allows the prints to be full screen or with a white border. 1, 2, 4, and maybe 8 photos per page. I have only used 1 or 2 so far.

It can be used standalone or with the computer. There is a screen that can be used for cropping. I prefer the computer when cropping my photos. 160 4x6 photos (paper and cartridges) cost a little under $47.00 to purchase.

I love my Epson R1800. It is awesome. I got it back in 2005 when they first came out. I am somewhat partial to Epson printers now though. i used to have an HP Photosmart, but when it was time to replace it I found that Epson was just putting out slightly better printers right then.

If you want to go big, check out the R1800.
