Look! The shipyard finished building the third Disney ship in secret! Here's a photo that I took this afternoon from the balcony of our hotel suite here on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. You can't see it on the picture, but I was able to make out the name of the ship. It's the Disney Fantasia! The shipyard is just north of this town.

Now that the secret is out, the shipyard workers are finally being allowed to tell their spouses what they've been working on. That's what a shipyard worker told me over a cold Birra Menabrea at the trattoria downstairs. When I pressed him about whether there will be a sister ship to the Disney Fantasia, he wouldn't say. But he mentioned that they're very busy with another cruise ship. When I named every cruise line I could think of, he said "no," that it wasn't for that line. When I said Disney, he also said "no" -- but he tried to hide a smile.

In my opinion, the Disney Fantasia doesn't look as elegant as the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. But it has a lot more balconies. And the water slide behind the rear stack looks like it's not just for kids. (I hope they change the color of the slide. It looks stupid the way it is.)

Okay. I confess. This is a picture of the Carnival Pride -- with a few modifications. This is not the Disney Fantasia. It's not the Disney Dreams either. And I'm not in Italy. And I don't think I've ever met a shipyard worker. And I've never tried Birra Menabrea -- I just found it on the Internet when I did a search for Italian beer.

But there's actually a reason for this picture. If Disney tries to optimize the use of space, the way that other cruise lines do, the result is likely to be a floating brick, like the Carnival Pride. The recent rumors have been that the third Disney ship will be somewhat larger than the current Disney ships, and will have more staterooms and an additional deck of verandah staterooms. That about describes the Carnival Pride!

I hope that the next Disney ship (if the rumors are true) won't look like a floating brick.

I bet you're not a real doctor either, but portray one on TV!!!!!

Very funny and great work with the graphics!!!!

lol Werner, and another great graphic masterpiece. It does inspire some thought though. A Disney ship like that? Yuck! It would be like Disney opening a park that looked like a Six Flags. Nice for someone else, but horribly ugly for Disney!

You certainly are a talented computer graphic artist, Werner. (This is just the latest example of your work.) Is this what you do professionally, or is it a hobby?

great post!!!

as for ship number 3, if the rumors ever turn into reality, i too hope it doesn't look like a floating brick...

you had me going for a minute there!

Yeah, I hear you....

oh wait....they already did that...

Great post Werner - though the minute I saw it I thought of the Pride. The one thing I do like about the pride is the way some of the rooms are full on off the back of the ship. I would love that view.

Great job with the graphics!

That's really funny!!! The conspiracy thery is alive. I bet there is a shipyard out there building it in secret. :)

If Disney ever builds another ship, and if they want it to be larger, I'd like them to keep the current design and just "balloon it" to make everything larger. It just might not fit through the Panama Canal if they did that.

Awesome post! I hate that I am so obsessed with this decision, but thrilled that I'm not the only one. Man was that funny!

You had me going too! Your very talented. Your post does raise some interesting points though. I would hate to see a floating brick.

Well if we are just getting silly here....

This is an artist's rendering of the 4th ship "The Disney Psychosis"

Now that's a lot of floors!

LOL :bounce: LOL :bounce:

My heart stopped for a minute there.....I thought that Disney had finally lost it!!!!!!!

Now that my heart has started again --- great job on the graphics!! This sure proves they need to keep that classic Disney style.

Heard a guy on NPR who is planning a floating brick. A ship that will have condos that folks buy and live in on a time-share or permanent basis. It will be large enough to have a grocery and businesses, then move occasionally to different ports. It is supposed to be a self-sustaining community (and no, I'm not kidding). I think the Psychosis must be based on this plan. Don't all you Disney time-share folks wish for a home-away-from-home?? How many points to see the world, retire in comfort? LOL, Werner and J Cricket!!!!

Oh man Werner! You got me. I even called one of my office mates over who is as addicted to Disney as I am before I read all the way through your post. :o

But if ANYONE could keep it secret DCL could. If you haven't already done so you need to put this up on the rumors and news board.

And Julie is right - Radiance is already floating.

I had the price list for residensea condos in my hot little hands and the starting prices were almost a million bucks!!!!
