My mum has no photo ID except her passport and doesn't want to carry that around with her in Florida. She learned to drive before the photo licenses came in and is now complaining about having to pay £19 to get one! Is there any other form of ID that would be accepted out there for buying alcohol/as ID on the park gates (noth that they ever actually ask!)

Cheers!

I've been asked quite a few times and I'm well over legal drinking age, and however much I want to I can't kid myself that I don't look it... :teeth:

I've read somewhere that you can carry a photocopy of your ID with you if you don't want to carry your passport. It also all depends who you get, sometimes they'll accept anything as long as it looks official and sometimes they won't even accept an official id, cause it doesn't look official to them.. :)

They don't make it easy do they?

She'd never photocopy a passport, she thinks all the world is out to steal her identity and that includes people who own photocopying places. They could have a scanner embedded in the copier so they can fake passports!!! (She's just a little paranoid!)

I think I'll just insist on the driving license!

in the US they often require a photo ID when making a credit card purchase, or purchasing alcohol.
If they ask for it, there's no way around it.

In fact, i once bought a book in the US that for some odd reason was censored, and the book store (Barnes and Noble) required a photo ID to prove i was over 21. I am 50 years old. I told the sales person i was going to kiss her for carding me at my age.

When i travel in the states I carry my passport around with me (in addition to my drivers license which actually does have a picture, but the passport is the easiest for them to use - very straightforward as opposed to my weird looking drivers license).

I've never had a problem using my student ID when using my credit card, it doesn't have to be a driving licence or passport (except if you're buying alcohol, although I think your mum would be alright there!). Perhaps she has something along those lines with her photo on?

I think the driving licence is the better option. I know a friend of mine tried to use her student card for buying alcohol and got it refused. I suppose it has to be known to them maybe?

Personally i wouldnt want to risk it, you spend too much on a holiday to let £19 get in the way.

it has nothing to do with the school being known to them. Student IDs are easily forged. Bars are not permitted to accept a student ID. It must be something like a drivers license with picture or passport.
Many states in the US provide non-drivers with picture ID cards for these purposes.
