Can somebody please let me know what is generally accepted in the US as photo id ? I don't really want to carry passports around. I'm hoping a UK photo driving licence is enough...without that ridiculously large sheet of paper that you're supposed to carry too. Thanks for your help.

Ric.

Photo driving licence should be adequate Ric - we have always used ours. You don't need to carry the paper part around with you - will only need that part if hiring a car :)

:thumbsup2 Yes I think I've used my photo driving license - also saves risking losing your passport or getting it wet on a ride.

Driving licence is the accepted form of ID in the US, so you will have no worries.

Claire ;)

Disney always accept my bus pass (I have the old style driving licence without photo)

Yes, a British Driver's license is fine. You won't have any problems using it.

just the photo bit is Ok for ID but don't forget to leave the big paper bit in the car as you will need it if you are stopped. Which we were when a ladder fell off a truck and nearly hit us. We swerved and ended up on verge. Police were there in seconds and wanted everyone's licenses. They were please we had our paper bit cos apparently most Brits don't carry them

Wow, that's horrible! I'm glad to hear everyone was ok though. I have had something similiar to that happen to me on I-4 before too. You definately need quick reflexes sometimes!

Perhaps not as scary as it might have been. I was driving and my DH spotted that it was moving a few seconds before it fell so I braked. It hit the floor about 2 or 3 feet in front of where we would have stopped if I hadn't swerved. I had expected it to bounce but it didn't. Strangely enough it was the I4

Thanks to all who responded! Carrying the photo licence is a much better idea.
